Title: Life after Hess
Post by: Spiderlegs on November 17, 2013, 02:43:28 PM
The NDSU game raises the question of who will be the next occupant of The Throne of Hess, and yesterday we saw the two leading candidates. To me, Tanner Garry looked impressive. Strong arm, can run if necessary, kept his cool in a crisis situation. Only thing missing is time with the receivers to work out timing and patterns. Nania seems to rely on his legs too much to get out of a jam--nothing wrong with a running QB, but we have plenty of runners already--we need a QB with an arm that can maximize the potential of our young deep threat receivers.  Anyone else have thoughts on this?

It's gonna be Garry or Ricky Davis. Nania just doesn't have it.

I am very happy with what I saw out of Tanner. Showed leadership and composure. Lots of arm work to do off-season ...but the tools are there to work with.

I agree. I wouldn't mind seeing a running\option package for Nania, maybe a series or 2 a game to give the opposition something else to prepare for.

Here is where I'll disagree with everyone. Next year doesn't not look good from a QB standpoint. As I've said before, they will have to seriously change the O for what talent does come back. Nania is more of a dual threat and yet , you see what can happen to a dual threat -- injury, fumbles, etc. Garry is a hotdog and shows it all over the field. Is not a scholly QB having walked-on at BG. Strong arm but poor decisions. No experience. Don't look for Wargo. Davis might do after a couple of years training. The incoming Frosh is in over his head.

Coaches had better have a soul searching meeting and decide if a Juco might be better to get them thru for a couple of years while trying to develop talent here and while trying  to improve the recruitment of a H.S. QB.

Next year I'd expect a heavy dose of the run game and play action passing. And maybe a better D. We'll need it.

Davis has all the tools to be a very solid QB for us. But can he pick up the offense and get control quickly enough? It's all there for him to take the starting spot.

I agree, not happy with the int but it seems to me that the O picked it up a notch when he came in. He did not seem shy!

Sorry to burst your bubble, Red. He is at the bottom  of  the QB list. Might play some TE if he puts on more weight.

We could use a talent scout of your ability down in Ky., Red.  8)
