I am not a big fan of this coaching staff but I still watch or listen to every second of every game regardless of the score because I grew up around YSU football. I went to every home game from 1997 to 2008 only missing four. I've been out of state for six years now and envy everyone who is local and gets to go to the games. I drove 7 hours to the Pitt game in 2012 and 6 hours to the South Dakota State game last season and will be making the trip to Illinois State this season regardless of the weather or our record.

Beat Southern Illinois

We need a defensive minded coach who understands how to recruit and develop players at this level. The defense under this clown has been nothing short of laughable. He talks so much about how we need to have FBS caliber players to win in this league but yet we have players who wouldn't start at some high school programs. We also need someone who can put together a staff and have consistency. Three DC's in Wolford's tenure and Montgomery as OC who coaches the 2nd half like he has a 5 TD lead. This season is lost and I don't see us winning another game on this schedule outside of MAYBE South Dakota.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU at Missouri State in-Game Thread

Was this an ugly game? You better believe it. Were we sloppy? Way too much for any fans liking. However, we got the win against what was a really talented offense in their stadium. Our defense made MSU look over matched on offense. 1-0 in this conference is better than 0-1 no matter how ugly it may be. Paladin will never be satisfied and this is probably another "Weenie" game to him. Go Penguins Beat Leathernecks.

These really are two pretty evenly matched teams. Our defense does scare me, I won't lie but the way to slow down Harris and MSU is by keeping him off the field. I believe we will see a heavy dose of our running game and I don't think they can stop us. This game will come down to 3 things: 1. Turnovers, 2. Responding to Missouri State's run (see the '10 and '11 games) and 3. Whichever QB makes more plays through the air.

I've been watching YSU football since the early 90's and I haven't seen the Gateway/MVFC this deep and strong ever. In years past, there were some games you could almost count as W's such as Indiana St when they were in the middle of their losing streak, Western Illinois some years and Illinois State last year however there are none on the schedule this year. Next week at Missouri State will really set the tone for the rest of the season. A road win would really help jump start our playoff push.
