The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the Gail and Terry Moore Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.
Terry Moore, who is a 1992 inductee into the YSU Athletics Hall of Fame, was the starting point guard for the men’s basketball program throughout his collegiate career (1973-77). He served as the co-captain for the Penguins during his junior and senior seasons. Moore helped lead YSU to an overall record of 68-39 throughout his career and is the all-time assist leader in program history with 619.
Adding to a long list of accolades, Moore participated in two NCAA Division II postseason tournaments while earning Academic honors in his junior and senior seasons.
Moore set the program record for career assists finishing with 619 in his four campaigns. To put it in perspective, only two other players in school history have eclipsed the 500-assist mark. He had at least 176 assists in each campaign, highlighted by a 230-assist effort in 1974-75. That total ranked second in school history for most in a season while his average of 8.2 per game tied for the school mark. He also had 200 assists in 1973-74.
He had the second-most assists in a single game in school history when he dished out 20 vs. Georgia State on Dec. 28, 1973.
After a star-studded collegiate career, Moore graduated from YSU with a degree in Political Science with minors in Economics and Accounting, with a 3.45 cumulative grade-point average. He obtained a law degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1980, before returning to his hometown in Canton, Ohio, to enter private practice.
He is married to the former Gale Watterson who is also a graduate of Youngstown State University and they had three children - Erin, Abigail and Christopher. Moore is a partner and shareholder with Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths and Dougherty Co., L.P.A., a small firm comprised of approximately 32 lawyers.
The Gail and Terry Moore Scholarship was established to help assist and further the education of student-athletes at Youngstown State University.
Paul McFadden said it is always special to have former student-athletes endow Athletic Scholarships.
“Many Penguins fans remember Terry from the success he had on the basketball court,” McFadden said. “He has always had the drive to be successful and that continued following his YSU career. We are honored that he and his wife, Gail, have endowed a scholarship at their alma mater.”

I remember the coach of Philadelphia Textile throwing a chair after losing to us at Beeghly.
Terry Moore if i'm correct started all four years. He had a nice shot but hardly ever shot since he was a pass first type of point guard all 40 minutes.

Beside Philly textile, Gannon College was also the big game of the year. As if only yesterday, I remembered watching Ohio U on the opening of our new gymnasium.

You're correct about Gannon. I was at the OU game, recall that they had some hotshot player but I do not recall his name, thinking a guard..

The OU player was Walter Lockert (or something like that.) He appeared on the freakin' cover of Sports Illustrated a few weeks before our game. Nobody could understand how OU got one of the most prized recruits in the country. Turns out he never amounted to anything special.

Talked to former Penguin great Gerald Parks about a month ago . He reffed a Rocky River game, as I'm living up here now. He said he still keeps in touch with Frank Andrews , who's back in Indy, and Terry Moore in Canton. He told me Terry's daughter is the girls coach at Canton Hoover H. S. Those were some great teams!

Yes, I remember his first name was Walter. His last name was something like Lucket. In the pregame interview, he said he joined OU because he could start right away. As I recall, he didn’t do much in that game either.
We did pack the place that night.

Gary Anderson was a 6-8 center and started his freshman season with Terry. I think he went to General Braddock HS in Pittsburgh. Gary didn't start after his freshman season with Jeff Covington coming in the following season.

I posted in the past that every team we play in our league was D2 in the past with the exception of Detroit. I don't think the talent now through out the league is better now than in the 70s . I believe it's all relative.

Wow, I didn’t remember they played together.
I still remember watching Tony Michell warmed up shooting the 3 ball before the game. He must have made over 70%of them. Covington was great on the low post although he was only listed at 6’7”. We stuffed the ballot box sending him to the McDonald MBB team playing in Vegas on TV (the only D2 player on the team) and he missed a uncontested dunk.
Phil Gaston had the deadly turn around jump shot from the right baseline 10’ from the basket. I think he was from Girard.
Sometime I wish Naz could shot like Covington 8 feet from the basket. Covington could do it either hand.
I believe Park was the shooting guard and Moore was the point guard.

Double ET, Tony Mitchell could shoot the 3 but unfortunately there was no 3 point line when he played.
Your right about stuffing the ballot box for Jeff. It was the pizza hut all star game and Jeff got his shot blocked by Maurice Cheeks (NBA All star ) who was only 6-1 .
Phil Gaston was a tough guy, He did tell the Vindicator that he wasn't getting the ball enough. I always wondered how Coach Rosselli and the rest of team felt about that.
