College basketball insider Jon Rothstein is reporting Youngstown State men's basketball coach Jerrod Calhoun has signed a five year contract extension through the 2027-28 season.
Calhoun led the Penguins to 24 wins and their first Horizon League regular season championship and was the conference's coach of the year.
Since 1981-82, Calhoun has been the architect of four straight winning seasons and over the last four seasons have won 76 games which set a school record for most wins over a four year span.
In six seasons at YSU, Calhoun is 96-96.

So he signs a Extension but what is the compensation and benefits of staying? Those things are left out of the article and need to be known.
-
Seems like At Youngstown everything is always a secret.
-
Yeah, still have yet to see figures on the extension.

Just a guess…. It must include a better compensation package, an escape clause (Similar to Tressel’s contract about leaving to Ohio State). It probably also includes a commitment to improve on Beeghly center or its replacement).

Huggins won't be able to name his successor at West Virginia, but he will have significant influence in that decision. As others have suggested, Calhoun is positioning himself for his dream job, just as Tressel did. Good for us as he has enormous incentive to keep winning until Huggins steps aside.

Also, just a guess but I would expect some sort of announcement on revamping Beeghly in the near future.

300k with a boat load of incentives. I'm sure the incentive options are similar to other coaches in the league.

At least if he does leave the buyout money will help with the new hire.

This is an increase of about $ 86,000 per year.
Looking at the economic side, if the team could bring in additional 1,000 paying customers, at 15 home games per year and at $ 10 ($ 12 @ game day), it is equivalent to 1000x15x$10 = $150,000/ year. I think if we were to make the big dance, there would be additional revenues.
I guess we could look at this as a business decision in additional other rationale.
