Turning out to be a nice thread, some good post on all sides.

1AA, I agree about the mac schools and a 1 on 1. And yes I would not trust them so either they play here first, which I doubt would ever happen, or have an ironclad contract with a really high buyout clause.

Most of the mac would not be interested in playing us but our fans would love to play some "local" schools. kent and akron would have their largest crowd of the year if they played us, but if they would lose to us it would sure hurt their recruiting.

Interesting...

@JoeScalzo1: YSU QB Dante Nania (ankle) did not practice today, other than light throwing. Not in pads. Looks like Hunter Wells might get first start.

Better to see what he has now.

So the article in the Vindy, Strollo explains that Playing these 3 home lower level games brings 200k per game. The cost of travel to a FCS non league game would be 100k. So in a nutshell for each of these three games we would drop and play away we lose 300k, money the ad dept cannot afford to lose.

So our options are simple, keep doing what we are doing and have people complain.

Have the complainers cough up 300k.

Play 2 fbs games and give up a home game every year.

I can't wait for our athletic marketing to promote this game as a contest against a 2013 playoff participant.  Affirmative action on the gridiron. :(  However, there are not enough misinformed casual fans left to absorb that propaganda.

And yet they were a 2013 playoff participant, so gee why not say so?

People complained when we played a D2 game, that was why we did not make the playoffs, so they said. So we scheduled 1-AA schools albeit not upper tier, and guess what, people still complain about the schedule. Seems people just like to complain. Say what you want but I believe that Butler made the playoffs last year and we did not. The Dukes gave 1A Buffalo all they could handle.

Maybe I am preaching to the choir on this board but I do not go to YSU games to see Butler, WIU SIU or anyone else on the schedule. I GO TO WATCH THE PENGUINS! I do not know if people out there are lazy, spoiled or what, but this lack of attendance is ridicules. Those players bust their butts and to come out and see that many fans in the stands is sad very sad.

Wolf will not be here forever, do you really think we will attract  a top notch coach when they look at butts in the seats. Same thing with the top notch players.

spend less time looking for excuses and get to the games people.

Why would anyone waste time talking about JT ever coaching again, let us all just hope that he can become the best president YSU ever had.

As far as Wolfs contract, no playoffs no extension. What the heck does 1 extra year do anyway?

I'LL TAKE IT!!! We just won an NCAA Tournament game!!! I could not be more proud of these guys!!! Time to install turf at Eastwood!

I know that it will not happen any time soon, but I would like us to eliminate another couple of blocks of blight and have a field on campus.

But about the game, I am so happy for them. It is one thing to make it in but to win a game means they belong.

Agreed Observer. However, take it one-step further:

1. YSU has improved academically over the past few years, STEM certification, business and education accreditation. The campus is virtually unrecognizable, as compared to when I began attending in the 80s. It is twice as large.

2. Tressel needs and wants to be out of the national spotlight to have an impact (as president) at YSU. So he has no need (nor concern) for that attention. He needs to be a local favorite and accessible. As to ESPN ...I am confident they feel Tressel is back down where he belongs and never should have left in the first-place ...YSU. So coach T is now President T ...and ESPN will go on moving our sports coverage down from ESPN2, to ESPN3. All the while loving their new SEC head-coach and media outlet voting puppet in Columbus.

Nice post.

As to the thought that JT will not help our national image, I do not see that as a being an issue, Not too many kids in Utah thinking about coming here. BTW I do not agree that he helps or hurts our national image anyway. We are basically a regional school.

Not just talking about JT with this statement, but there are a lot of good folks out there that have made poor decisions. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and look at the big picture, see if all the goods out weight all the bad.

One great example was JoePa, did he make a bonehead decision, yep he did, but if you look at all the great things he did ( not just talking wins here ) he was a darn good man.

About JT, I for one was not a happy camper when he left and had no desire to every have him back in town - ever. My god he left us for the school down south somewhere, but after thinking about the whole thing for a while, I truly believe that he has a very good chance of making good things happen at YSU.

Ha  ha ha that is great! Wait what was the team they beat? I love it!

I heard the interview and did not feel that he was in favor of adding sports. I actually felt that the question was out of line. JT was not hired for sports.
