We split with them during the regular season and this is going to be a war. Nelson used to play for them and i bet he has a Vandetta against them. He should play out of this world so we have a shot at a neutral site.
We need to travel good. Need at least 1k to 2k there. As long as we play our game and start off good with a lead going into half is a win for us. Or team seems to struggle in first half. We depend on the 2nd half comebacks way too much. We shall see

I'd be surprised if there are more than a few hundred YSU fans there Monday night. IF they win, I think you can get a decent # making the 5.5 hour drive on Tuesday.
In the two games against NKU this year, we scored 73 and 74 points. I would expect low 70's again tomorrow night.
In the loss in Highland Heights, YSU was up 5 points (56-51) with 1 minute left before NKU scored 7 points in 37 seconds to tie it up (58-58). As you may recall, we had chances at the end of regulation and the first OT, but both possessions were just awful.
This game is going to come down to our defense. If we can hold them to under 70 points, I would like to think we come away with a win. The defense vs. Detroit was tremendous at times, but it came at a cost, getting absolutely dominated on the glass on certain possessions. If we can bring that same intensity on defense and protect the glass, you have to like our chances.
-
Agree BushwoodCC
-
YSU is around a 3.5-point favorite.
I think if YSU shoots the ball well and can get into the 70s we'll be ok. NKU is going to want keep this game in the 60s I'd imagine.
Hopefully Nelson has a big game and we need Rush to shoot the ball well and hit several 3's. Also keep Warwick, Vinson, and Faulkner from going off. They've killed YSU in the past. Need McBride to really play well defensively and if he can score some points and hit one or two 3's would be great.
Game could come down to FT shooting. NKU isn't the best FT shooting team at 68%. YSU has been solid most of the year, but seems like their % has come down a bit of late.
-
Agree with Mudclods
-
Agree with Mudclods
Agree also. Warrick and Falkner are always consistent while Vinson has been up and down and I consider him their X factor. Need to slow them down .
Would like to see Green Post up strong and make the offense go inside out.
-
As of now we are 3.5 favorites
-
Let's get it boys and girls!!
-
We need to make those layups in the paint. No 3 points shots from Green, please.
-
Defense travels. Have to come ready to guard.
-
What's going on with ESPN U. AFTER 7 AND STILL SHOWING GYMNASTICS
-
Watching the game on ESPN+ right now
-
Zone offense a little shaky so far.
-
Slow pace tied at 4. Usual slow start by Guins.
-
Like I said, if they can't defend they won't win. Abysmal defense so far.
-
getting out hustled
-
Look unprepared. Bad offensive sets. Bad defense and too many NKU offensive rebounds.
-
It looks like hot potato on the offensive end. Calhoun needs to reel them in. The moment looks too big for them right now.
-
They haven't played defense all year. If you can't rebound and guard in big games, you're not going to win.
-
This is gross.
-
Getting blown off the court. Embarrassing!
-
They can't do anything right, what a joke.
-
It looks like whatever happened in Beegjly is gonna cost them. The off foul on Rush was a bad call. Its over folks.
-
That was not a charge on Rush
-
These calls aren’t helping much either
-
Calhoun needs to right this ship. Foul trouble could cost them if he doesn't gettthis under control. NKU driving to the basket at will
-
Do they still coach/teach boxing out? Find your man fly to the ball.
-
Wouldn't be any calls if they could keep their man in front of them. It's been a problem all year long and in the biggest game, gonna cost them. Can't out score every team.
-
Nelson being embarrassed by his old team
-
Disappointing. Calhoun needed to step up and actually coach tonight. They look like they are bored. This didn’t Gannon. It’s obvious that the Norse want it more and took that last loss personal. Hats off to the Norse Coach. He knew to attack us inside and crash the boards. We seemed to run out of gas a couple of weeks ago and playing on fumes since.
-
This is pathetic & embarrassing how NKU is totally outplaying YSU in every facet. They definitely want it more than YSU. Their offensive rebounding is killing YSU. As usual YSU, looks lost against the zone in the first half. This team can never start strong & knew it would come back to bite them on a big stage.
-
Pathetic showing as a 1 seed. Maybe we’ll reach the tourney before I’m dead but not counting on it.
-
Just completely embarrassing
-
They look completely unprepared.
-
Dead legs folks. Its OVER.
-
Nku had a game plan and executed. Idk what ours was but whatever it is it ain’t working.
-
The 3s will be flying in the 2nd.
-
NKU playing a match up zone but they put #3 on top causing problems with our shooters. It’s like we never expected it. Very poor prep.
-
Can't guard, can't rebound defensively, can't play against the zone and just make some of the dumbest bone headed plays. The things this team is not good at all year have bit them in the biggest game.
-
I didn't know that YSU still had a jv team . What a nightmare.
-

100%. Adjustments ?
-
FINALLY a year where we are a top team in the conference. We are taken serious as a basketball program for once….and then we do this. Pathetic is the only word that comes to mind.
-
Not even competitive. Hurts to watch.
-
All year they have been a second half team…it will take the ultimate now. We can only hope.
-
All year they have been a second half team…it will take the ultimate now. We can only hope.
Yes and this has been my fear all year that as the stage got bigger we couldn't afford to do this.
Where is the energy, intensity and passion from this team? NKU wants it and like someone said YSU looks disinterested.
-
NOW ITS OVER
-
Talked all year long and getting BLOWN off the court. What a freaking embarrassment. Goodnight.
-
Can go to bed early and not watch this garbage.
-
Heart, hustle, and execution vs one on one offense.
-
What a start to the 2nd half...2 points in 5 points. At what point does Coach put in Dunn, Shemar & Shelton and see if they want to play with some heart?
-
Getting run out of the gym. Wow. At least we have Nit
-
Slowly coming back.
-
Don’t count on it. All this effort and still down 15. Lot of guys in foul trouble too.
-
Shame Cohill missed that wide open 3 & Lovelace missed a FT.
-
Telling u now....... the refs were directed to be against the penguins tonight! We'll see how this ends but alot of questionable calls!
-
NKU guy used his arm to the lower part of Cohill's body.
-
Absolute garbage call on Cohil for his 5th.
-
Refs can’t help but blow their damn whistle
-
Can't get a stop when it counts. Not good enough
-
Might be a reach but I would put in Shelton against their zone with his shooting.
-
Start spreading the news
I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it
New York, New York
-
They have two guys with 4 fouls and we continue to shoot deep 3's and brick them. That will end the game right there. Not good enough
-
Not sure what Calhoun was thkg but the first 10 minutes cost us the game. He goes to halftime with 3 timeouts?
-
Best team in 25+ years and can't even make the conference championship. A damn shame...
-
Best team in 25+ years and can't even make the conference championship. A damn shame...
Yup. Probably see you in another 25 years!
-
Like they say........there's always next year! 3 games against D3 schools and we win 18 games.... LOL
-
Calhoun may me GONE.
-
Tired of seeing all these teams make the tourney and we do the same garbage every year even when we finally have a great season. CSU, Oakland, NKU, UWM
-
NIT it is
-
NKU 35 Free throws
YSU 13 Free throws
NOT A COINCIDENCE
Like I said 2 hours ago. Whatever happened in Beegly against UDM was the end of 6this run!
-
As a browns fan and a YSU basketball fan it's been a lot suffering and I always say Jobe got of light.
-
I don't know how many teams NKU players were the backs of YSU players, and they called fouls on YSU, but YSU came into game and id respond when hit in the mouth!
-
This team was never the same after the overtime game a few weeks ago. But if you don’t rebound you have no chance, Calhoun needs to review his game day bench tactics. He needed to coach this team early. Should have anticipated NKU being agreesive early and with their experience being there. Instead he just sat there
-
If you are going to point out FT discrepancies, it should be noted that NKU had 12 FTs in the last 2:30 minutes to none for YSU. When you are forced to foul because you are down, it isn’t because of something that happened last week
-

Like is said 2 hours ago. Whatever happened in Beegly against UDM was the end of this run!
YSU was never the same after the Milwaukee game. Lousy first half against GB, got beat handedly by RMU, struggled against IUPUI, barely beat Detroit at home and now this.
Crazy thing is YSU made 2 more baskets and took 6 less shots, but the fouls and getting out-hustled killed them. YSU couldn't get stops when they needed. And the calls certainly didn't go YSU's way. Hard to believe 3 players fouled out. I really think if Cohill hadn't fouled out they may have found a way to pull it out.
I thought YSU started bombing those 3's too early late and when those missed they pretty much were done. And only making 4 was a killer.
I know Malek Green went down in the first half, but he started the 2nd half. Was it the injury he didn't play at all the last 17 mins?
I still don't understand how Shemar doesn't get any playing time other than in the final mins when the game is out of hand.
-
YSU 45%- NKU 37% from the field
NKU 37-35 rebounding…seemed like 57-35
-
YSUBoston.... let me guess.... you're a liberal Bostonian who thks Biden is a good president....? get the hell out of here u clown!
-
Do we have a chance of a home NIT game?? let me know.
-
YSU got outrebounded but fouls were the tell tail and the final margin of difference. they made 28 free throws to our 11. that foul on cohill should have been a offensive charge if you look at it again. Oh well off to the Nit
-
Do we have a chance of a home NIT game?? let me know.
Sunday is when they make the selections.
-
Too early to tell or figure out our next opponent or if we do get a home game it may be a game vs Duquesne. I don't know if they got eliminated from their conference tournament. But most likely on the road. Depends on the rest of the conference tournaments . Way too early
-
Watching Cleve. st put a whopping on Milwaukee
-
Brandon Rush is eligible to return next year. I heard it on the halftime show. Rest of seniors i have no clue because of the covid rule
-
Coach may have to hit the portal again! I don't think three true freshmen and one 6'4 junior guard will cut it! But I think if anyone can keep us competitive, it is Coach C!
-
He does have 4 signed for next year. One of them is 7-3. One 6-8 and he looks really good. The other w are 6-4. But I think he will hit the portal again. One of the 6-4 guys is a juco that looks good. Recruiting seems to be Calhoun niche.
-
But I don't see bench other than hunter or Lovelace able to get starts next year. Need to know other than rush who will come back or even be eligible to come back.
-
I think Rush is it!
-
One of the best teams in a long time and we couldn't even take advantage of it.
Maybe in another 25 years we'll hit the tourney.
-
NKU guards penatrated at will collapsing the YSU defense. They had a game plan and it worked. Not sure what YSUs game plan was but it didn't work offensively or defensively.
-
I live / work in the Cleveland area. Was telling everyone at work how I was hoping to go to Indy today for the Horizon League Championship game.
Could you have imagined a YSU - CSU Horizon League Championship game. Plus with the Calhoon storyline of a former CSU player. Would have been something.
Of course, we lose, and CSU won. I think I will keep my office door shut all day and sulk. :-\
-
I agree with much of what has been said. Many factors contributed to the loss and the poor play on our part. One of the biggest issues I think is the result of the problems at the end of the Detroit game. I saw an apology from YSU to Detroit and I know the Detroit coach talked to a Horizon League official after the game. It seemed to me that our team and coach were down for the game and didn't have the energy level that they normally have. Who knows what went on behind closed doors at YSU, the Horizon League, and the officials’ meetings. DC was not himself with the smiles and talking to the fans and refs. And I think the refs were told to keep an eye on the YSU team to keep them in line. The foul disparity was large and the last foul on DC was sure a charge to me, and with over 5 minutes to go in the game it was huge. And Dwayne's reaction after the call was not Dwayne at all.
Other problems were a lack of a game plan offensively and defensively against a well know opponent. The injury to Malek Green which hurt our inside game on offense and defense. Our lack of a bench to replace Malek. And our players did not step up in such a big game. Our inside problems on defense and rebounding were sure apparent. With all of that we were down only 4 with about 4 minutes to go! And if we had Dwayne, our clutch guy, we had a good chance to win.

Spot on with this analysis. All this went through my head as well. Cohill also apologized on Twitter. He did seem like he was zoned out or something and wasn't himself. YSU just didn't play with any sense of urgency or intensity. I don't think they expected to be punched in the mouth like they were. The deficit was too much to overcome though I wondered if Green hadn't gotten hurt and Cohill wasn't in foul trouble had they been able to pull it out or at least at chance at the end.
I know it's not Coach Calhoun's style to yell and scream and call a lot of timeouts, but I think maybe the first half and start of the second half was the time to get the team out of the funk. I also thought he might have went a little deeper on the bench, but didn't.
Even thought YSU and Milwaukee were the best teams throughout league play, the tougher teams in NKU & CSU won and that's usually how it seems to play out in the conference tournaments.
-
As in so many other years lack of length really hurts.
Hopefully that changes
-
It will we have a 7-3 recruit coming next year. Gabriel Dynes from Kentucky a HS Senior this year. Really skinny but at 7-3 you cannot teach height. Can always add weight. Good Defensive player just limited offensively
-
Too little too late. We overcame a 22 point deficit and got it to 4 and that is when CoHill fouled out and that was it. Plus two others fouled out as well.
-
Need to focus on having a good showing in the NIT! Have to move on now! Unfortunate, but that is the hand we a dealt with!
-

Agree. I know everyones dissappointed about last night but sometimes a little perspective is needed. This was the best D1 team YSU has ever had and I really enjoyed this season and grateful of how far the program has come.
We can easily pinpoint what went wrong last night and play Monday morning QB but the NIT is a week away and I'm looking forward to see how the team rebounds going forward.
-
Hopefully a home game or a close travel game. Duquesne or Cleveland State??
-
It won't be Cleveland State! Most likely a MAC school or lower Big 10 team school at they're place! Maybe an Atlantic 10! At this point who knows! I hope they don't send out West or Far south somewhere!
-
FIRST FOUR OUT
Arizona St.
Nevada
North Carolina
Wisconsin
NEXT FOUR OUT
Michigan
Charleston
Clemson
Oregon
YSU is a projected 7 seed in the NIT. I don't see that changing based on the projected field. We would likely be traveling to someone from the above list. Of course, we won't know until the NCAA Tournament field is set on Sunday.
-
How do you know our seed so soon?
-
He said "projected". I am guessing the info came from here: https://www.dratings.com/predictor/bracketology/
-
Makes sense.
-
Will # 7 seed play at #2 seed??. Those projected #2 seeds are far away
-
Right now 2 vs 7 would have us at Wisconsin I'm guessing!
