Lowellville senior Vinny Ballone will continue his academic and athletic career at Youngstown State University.
The Rocket’s quarterback made the announcement on social media Friday.
Ballone passed for 3,360 yards this past season, rushed for 453 yards and accounted for 58 total touchdowns while leading Lowellville to 11 wins and a berth in the Division VII playoffs.
He will graduate as the school’s all-time leading passer with 8,689 career yards and 124 career touchdowns. Ballone broke six school records during his high school career and was twice named a member of the WKBN Big 22.

Interesting verbal. Certainly has the ability. We need a portal transfer at the position tho and running back as well.

Just a caution for those of you outside the area. This kid played extremely weak competition in high school. His stats don't really mean very much. That being said, good players can come from anywhere. This is a big, athletic kid that plays multiple sports. He is certainly worth a look.

Wow nice QB. Nice stats at the Div 1 level.

Wow indeed! I'm impressed Have we ever recruited a DI "passer" with these types of credentials? I wonder how we got him. Great job Phillips and staff.

Did some research on the QB recruit. He played for a D6 school till he transferred to Springfield for his Senior year was a Co player of the year in D6. After his junior year had no D1 offers. That’s why he transferred. He is coming as a preferred walk on. It looks like his father is head coach from where he transferred.

OK, that makes more sense. I could not comprehend how we landed an Ohio D1 qb with those career stats. Hey, three highly touted lower division players competing for the job in 2024. One might be for real.

He looks good on the video highlights. Finds open receivers. Maybe he is going to be a redshirt.

That is encouraging. For 2023 as the roster is currently constituted, I suspect Brungard and the kid from Pittsburgh will back up Davidson, while Ballone and this kid from Springfield will redshirt.

Unless we get a portal transfer at QB...NEED BIG RUNNING BACK IN PORTAL AS WELL.
