YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Lack of Early Football Excitement

go guins stated:
"Yes, I am saying split what is now officially FBS into two.  The powder 5 conferences, and everyone else currently in FBS.  IE. the MAC the Mountain West etc.  That would allow the remaining FBS teams to lower expenses because they are not pretending to play on the level of the Power 5.  And I YSU definitely do NOT want to move up to that either.  We are barely able to maintain where we are now.

Two comments:  1st, the Mountain West and American Athletic Conferences are far more aligned with the so-called Power 5 than the weaker FBS conferences (MAC, Sunbelt).  There is no comparison.  Boise State, U. of Houston and Cincinnati (for example) consider themselves big time and do not relate to the MAC/Sunbelt, etc.).

Secondly, your solution basically already exists - it's called 1AA...now you want to have 3 divisions, which I do not think makes any sense.

Besides the extra 20plus scholarships and paying coaches more salary, what other costs are associated with moving up to Division 1A (FBS)?

YSU Penguin Athletics / Lack of Early Football Excitement
« on: July 10, 2018, 10:33:03 AM »
I know it's summer but this site is absolutely DEAD.  Football season is just around the corner and there is no excitement at all.  Perhaps it's because we have a lousy non conference schedule that no one cares about.  Not even playing at WVU is getting anyone excited - this is sad.  So let me get things started and hopefully I'll fire some people up.  If we were in the Mid American Conference we would be excited for the start of football season.  We would have rivalries.  We would be where we belong - a perfect fit.  One conference for ALL sports.  The MAC is not dropping down to 1AA, we need to figure out how to join and make things work economically.  What say you?

I want to play with THE BEST period.  I'd rather see the YSU tennis team play Florida (and most likely get beat) than play in some-watered down championship that means absolutely nothing.

They do...it's called Division II.  If you all get the same amount of scholarships then you all play for the same prize.  It's not like that in Div. 1 football, hence FBS & FCD.

I get more and more excited about YSU men's basketball every day!

Akron recently built a 30,000 seat state of the art football stadium, therefore, they aren't dropping football.

83
Get real, that's not going to EVER happen...at least not with Akron and Buffalo

I agree with YSUGO 100%.

In a conference like the MAC, it's reasonable for each university to sponsor only 16 sports (EMU will now have 17).  I believe that many MAC schools spend money frivolously in areas that they probably don't need to.  I still want YSU to be in the MAC as a Division 1 football member if at all possible.

I actually picked WSU to upset Tennessee, what a bad move on my part.  I miss Butler, Valpo, Loyola.  Our league is pretty bad now.

1AA stated:  Football is a revenue-generating sport, MBB is not and never will be ...so it is not even worth my time.

1AA, please explain to me once again why men's basketball "can never be a revenue-generating sport," because I easily see just the opposite.

Penguin Nick earlier stated:  go guins, personally you're statement is false.

go guins, you are correct in that my earlier statement should have read:  "I look at this differently"or "I disagree with you" as you have a right to an opinion (no matter how wrong it is  ;D)

As per NDS, no one in the Power 5 wants to play them anymore as they aren't worth the aggravation.

go guins, personally you're statement is false.  I look forward to an extremely challenging basketball schedule that eventually will help us get better players and that in the future perhaps we will win some of the games.  In football I am interested in the so called "money game" more than any game of the year.  Can't wait to go to WVU in September.

From go guins:  "but sports at YSU is all about football."

go guins, I love football but you should include men's basketball in your statement.  If the men's team did well they would be the talk of the town.
