YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Official: Head Coach Search Thread
« on: December 11, 2014, 04:11:44 PM »
As usual, everyone side steps the issue and can't name  THEIR standards for a coach. Opinions only. This is laughable. "Valley boy", come on down.  The Youngstown   mentality is alive and well.

If, and I say If Pelini comes here, its going to be a fun gig. He couldn't get it done at a place who had everything  while acting like a butthead and now he is to be the "shining" star at YSU ?   ;D

Y'all are in for some surprises. And disappointments.

Here is a story Cleveland:

I was in high school (I went to Canfield in the late 70's & early 80's if any of you know the faculty). I had a teacher discussing the differences between the North and South during the US civil war. The teacher "bit off more than he could chew" and began to discuss everything from political systems to France vs. England. Well, I became fed up with some of his obviously wrong statements and told him the way that I though it was.

The teacher could have laughed at the 13-year old kid. However, I addressed the teacher with all the respect that he deserved. After the class, he and I went to another teacher (a noted expert in the subject) and had a nice discussion where I learned more. I even got to eat in the teachers lounge and had a pop (something students could not drink at the time, so it was a big deal to me).

Moral: dispute the post ...not the poster. It really does not matter who posted something ...what does matter is that if you know something different ...tell us, so we all know. If the coach made poor adjustments ..give an example of what you would have done differently on a given play. I have never been a huge Wolf fan, but he has forgotten more about coaching than I could ever know. He is the leader of my team and deserves all of the respect of his position.

So did you have a coke or pepsi?

Coke is the worst. Nothing made me as happy as seeing Pepsi products on campus.

You didn't like that? I bought it was funny and right on!

Got it!

So just so we're clear we can attack the football coaches, basketball coaches, Athletes, Athletic Director and other admin staff. But we must stay away from reporters and message board members? Are we on the same page here?

IMO...two wins for YSU = seed and a bye.   One win, preferably over ISUb = at large w/ a probable home game.  Scalzo wrote a piece saying one win = in.

Re: JMU...my wife is an alum so I follow them.  I hope they make it.  Their OT loss to DE forces them into a must win at Richmond...they'll crush Elon the following week.

I think the CAA gets three in (NH, Villanova, and the winner of JMU v. Richmond)...and maybe four if DE beats both NH and Villanova (not likely).

Scalzo is wrong more often than he is right when he makes these predictions. I wish he would keep his mouth shut. Like when he wrote a couple years ago that YSU fans shouldn't attend games because YSU was out of the playoff race.

Hahaha. Nice reference.

The sports wrap people are a joke. But that's media in the Youngstown market in general. Youngstown ranks 109 in TV market size. We get the D team when it comes to tv , print and radio media members.

Some maybe, but we have some A team also

To each their own I suppose. But watch a news cast in Cleveland and compare it to the one in Youngstown. Not even in the same league.

And read the plain dealers coverage of anything and compare it to the atrocity of the vindicator or Tribune. It's men amongst boys in comparison.

Our sports information department is very good.  Our athletic marketing department is very bad.  There are not many topics about which we could arrive at a consensus on this board.  This might be one of them.

Don't speak for me Wick!!!

The marketing and SID department does a great job at YSU.

The SID department does a great job getting students involved in YSU game broadcast. Trevor is great.

The marketing department puts together award winning game programs and sponsorships that are tops in FCS football. So don't speak for us Wick. Just because you have a beef doesn't mean it's a consensus.

The SID does a great job and has for years.  The marketing department is a big problem.

Couldn't disagree more. YSU needs a member of the media in their SID department. I would fully support getting  a member of the media from Cleveland or Pittsburgh in there to stir up some support.

It sounds like you are friends with them, since you use their names on a 1st name basis. I'm sorry if I'm insulting you by saying that. But it's just my personal opinion.

Disagree 100%, I think the constant misspellings and lack of media coverage in cities around Youngstown speaks for itself.

I will be coming to 2 of the 3 games. Hell I'll go to all 3 if it means I can get a $10 giftcard from Rulli Bros? Anyone around that can buy me two three point passes, since I live in CLE?

Agreed. The sports info department is very poor.

Ysu has a huge following in Cleveland, Columbus and Pittsburgh. We need media coverage in those towns. Marketing ain't the problem. Lack of media coverage and population decline is.

Barstool:  Could you clarify the dividing line of marketing and media?  I am missing your point on this.

So here's my point. We have tv, print, radio and now Internet media coverage in big cities all within a couple of hours from town. We have athletes from these areas playing for our teams. We have alumni in these areas. There's a gap between the media who tell these stories, and ysu, who's supposed to bring these stories to them. I have yet to see one highlight in Cleveland news. Even with our runningback from two years ago being from there. We have people who specialize in getting this info to the media. Ysu is doing a poor job at that.

I don't think the valley has this large level of high school football attendance as they think. I know it's impossible for anyone to get correct figures, but Ursuline or mooney aren't getting over 5k at games at Stambaugh. No matter how much their fans shout or holler that they do, they don't. But that's a different story, for a different day.
