YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: YSU football & basketball OOC schedules

How does RPI work? Do you get a ranking when you are a D1 team and beat a D2/D3 team at home? Would your RPI be even higher if you beat them on the road? Not real sure how that all works.....would you explain?

1AA? These Florida guys? The ones who are good leave and the ones who aren't stay? So would Kendrick fall into the ..............which one? You are so out of touch.
Osandi found out....or realized.....it was cold in Youngstown? Really? Guess he wasn't a geography major! Yet only 5 % of his decision was based on what there was to do in Youngstown! God love Youngstown.......but there is not a whole lot to do!
"The wheels have come off"......."Elvis has left the building"......" The fat lady has sung"........."jerry is coaching"? One doesn't fit. You solve the puzzle...riddle....whatever you may deem it so that it sounds complex in your high thinking analysis.
Things outlive their usefulness. Happens all the time.
By the way......haven't heard any updates on the current roster making GPA rewards recognition? Did I miss it?

I believe the EKU AD recently left to take another job? Was it a case of "greener pastures", or being under appreciated, I wonder?

ELPENGUIN......you know the reason? You are privy to the info Under 5th Ave......correct? Jalen got in the game tonight....for the last minute. Was that coach slocum's way of putting him in his place? After all...he is from Detroit.

I doubt very seriously if it is an injury. That would have had to have happened over the holiday break...as he was DNP the first few games back. Then he was inserted at the end.....as in last minute...of a couple games. You don't do that with a "recovering" player.
As for academics.....he played those two "mop up" 1 minute roles AFTER the semester break...can't be that.
The third option......the doghouse? As I questioned in an earlier thread....how does a kid go from STARTiNG 11 of 15 games.....to 2 minutes played in the entire conference schedule? Someone must have stepped up and really made it hard for him to see time on the floor......right? That has to be the reason......coach slocum sees more potential from the others. After all.....he has won 699 games.....defer to his ability.

Penguin power
You need to take some road trips for the away games YSU plays. I have been to every facility in the league and I would by no stretch call Beeghly the worst one......not even close! The ARC(Valpo), O'rena(Oakland)' Callahan(Detroit) and UIC are all much worse. Prior to UWM moving to the USCELLULAR arena, it had the worst facility. Listen to Slocum talk about the other facilities and even he can't hide his disdain for them. So I don't think your argument holds water.
As for the original thread theme...Fletcher Larson....I hope that the reason remains private. If we do find out the reason, via the Athletic Dept or coaching staff, the motive will be merely to credence to the reasoning that failures are acceptable as long as the program is clean. The staff has remained silent on several issues the last couple years.....I hope they are consistent.

????What's not a good sign to send 1AA??? That the people in charge recognize a problem......and attempt to fix it? Is that child psychology....or the psychology of a child? Your reasoning is lost on me.

I would think that the Horizon League would not allow UWM to participate in the conference tourney. The winner of the tourney is the automatic qualifier.

Let's quit using the excuse of funding...and what we could pay a coach. That's like putting out a job posting and saying " paying $10.00 an hour, only a heartbeat required. No performance expectations....as we understand the pay is low". Or hiring the salesman who always meets his draw, but never earns a commission. If you become complacent in your expectations, you will always remain stagnant. Performance is something that can be judged. A value can be placed on it. If you enter into a task and expect mediocrity, based upon your low pay scale....you need to re-evaluate the need for that position. Maybe MBB is not needed. Maybe we need to drop down to D2. If you are not going to continually evaluate the "performance" of your employee, and make changes when necessary(as now), you truly wouldn't be the one employed by my business.

OK, 1AA, let's talk basketball.
As for why he came here? It's a lot more prestigious job and I would assume it paid quite a bit more. As bad as YSU basketball may be....it is a better job than DII, DIII, NAIA or NJCCA.
As for earning the right to determine his outcome? That right is earned by SUCCESSFUL coaches. I guess you gave us all a little insight on how you judge success. Mediocre at best is not a success to me.
We are young? Last year we started 2 SR, 1 JR and 2 SO. This year we start 2 SR, 1 JR and 2 SO. Not much difference. Vaughnn off the bench is a FR, much like Keene was last year. Stewart off the bench is a JR, much like Larson was. If your definition of "young" truly means "new to the program", you are correct. But, we are not truly "young".
Deeper? Look at the minutes played. We still have 4 players averaging above or near 30 minutes per game! The only reason we don't have 5 is because Coach Slocum can't figure out who he is going to be pissed at from game to game. As an example, how can Plummer start 11 of 15 OOC games and yet only record 1 minute of action in 5 conference games? Sure, you are going to say he can't shoot, look at his percentages. Well, if that were the case Vaughnn and Stewrt both would still be sitting. They started the year off horribly.
You said this team was "more balanced and deeper than any team in recent memory". Those are statements generally associated with someone explaining a teams reason for success? You used it as an excuse? I am confused.
The league is weaker than I can recall in recent years. UWGB is beatable, CSU has had some flaws, VALPO is not the team of recent years, WSU is mediocre and so on. We just lost, convincingly, to a team that has nothing to play for.....and it reflects in their record..UWM.
Enough basketball for now. I look forward to talking basketball in the future. Let me know when you find some.

Penguin4ever....which assistant would you prefer? Tweedle Dee or Tweedle Dum? Watch a game. Zero input from either. At least Coach Hall gets recruits... ala the Detroit connection.

How can you start the first 11 games....then not see the floor in the last three straight? ALL LOSSES? If you are THAT bad?.....why did it take 11 games to figure it out? GO FIGURE? COACHING? or lack there of?
