It's crazy to think the redbirds have only scored 15 TDs in conference play to our 22 Tds . On the flip side they have allowed just 15 Tds to our 34. If Mark Waid does get the start this week it could be a tall task for him. It will be interesting to see how much RPO the staff uses with him going forward and how his body can hold up to it
-
Hopefully some folks come out to see Mark Waid play, but I'm putting the over/under at 1000 butts in seats. Too many factors working against them.
temp around 40 and chance of rain
no playoffs
undefeated OSU vs 1 loss PSU

I am going to see Nate Mays before the game & give him his well-deserved standing ovation, along with the rest of this class. These are the last of the pre-Bo players and there is only a couple of them left.
-
Almost 10 minutes in and either team completed a pass and have 3 interceptions!!
Actually 25 minutes in!!!!
-
Wow. With 3 minutes left in the half ysu get first completion. First for either team
-
Maybe a sign of good things to come.
-
there seems to be a lot of interest in this game
-
my bad everyone is at the game. I forgot it is a home game
-
WOW! Who would have guessed: YSU leading Ill St. late in the 4th Qtr. IT LOOKS LIKE WE WILL BEAT A RANKED TEAM. The defense was superb.
-
Yay?
-
Yay for sure. But also sad to see how much we have underachieved this year. Could have done this a little more in season for playoffs oh well
-
Stambaugh has never been kind to the Redbirds
-
Maybe a good sign for the future. Many younger players playing. Get some new assistant coaches and who knows. I am getting tired of keeping looking forward to next year....
-

Maybe my memory is bad but I distinctly remember several win and your in games against the Redbirds at stambaugh under Wolford. Don't remember winning them either lol
-
Illinois State ended up completing as many passes to YSU as they did their own team--was proud of our team today, they gave a great effort especially on defense---nice to see Nate Mays take the final snap.
-
Very enjoyable game, nice weather, very good defensive effort. The fair weather fans missed a good game, their loss.

You were right in your deserved ovation request, but Bo outdid you on this one. The end of the game tribute was one I've never seen the equal!

Of course Ill St wins their first round game on the road 24-3. Robinson ran for just under 300.

Robinson must have healed--I read he was only about 50% against us.

If that. You people make me laugh. The worst YSU team (at least on defense) in recent memory and suddenly we became a top-5 club in one week? :o We have enormous amounts of work to do to be a real football team. Not too much if we wish to be a Pelini football team. When they have no QB, you can pretty much stop any offense. I mean their QB only completed 3 passes? btw, Robinson did rush for over 80-yards against us at almost 4-yards-per-carry, this despite YSU double-teaming him on every play. Besides SeMO?
-
BTW: I do not mean to disrespect SeMO for being in the post-season, they did play well late in the season.
-
We definitely weren't a top 5 team--we were more like a bi-polar team, some weeks playing "lights out "and some weeks playing like "who cares?"

They were ranked #12--a helluva lot higher than YSU and still lost to a team without a QB--that's why they play the game instead of using projected statistics! ;)

I agree David, but that is because everything with coach Bo is "big play". With big plays on offense you score quick or it is 3 & out. With big play defense you drop the QB for a loss of he burns you. There is no balance on defense whatsoever and little of it on offense. We blitz or we double-cover receivers. We rotate offensive backs with little attentions to development or running style. It took Mays being less that 100% from off-season surgery to keep him from running & his back-ups were the same. All of Mays successful passing was short-side throw for the end zone. Yet he has always shown the ability to work traffic, as do Craycraft and Waid. Perhaps even more-so with Craycraft and Waid. Craycraft was darn impressive working the sidelines against ILS. Waid was almost as good with less experience.

On to the final 8, Robinson had an off game, only 210 yards. Bison next
-
Bison over Illinois St. 9-3..Quarterback play for the Redbirds was a major problem all year. I like James Madison to win the championship. Shane Montgomery is doing a good job with the Dukes offense
-
Remember that Illinois State lost their starting quarterback the week before they played us. He was not great but he was way better than the stiffs that replaced him. The fact the Illinois State actually won two playoffs games with lousy quarterback play just tells us that half the FCS field was terrible.
The three MVFC teams that have been eliminated so far have lost only to other MVFC rivals or to James Madison. In fact, the upper echelon of FCS football consists only of the first division of the MVFC plus James Madison. That will be reinforced next week when NDSU and JMU both wallop Big Sky pretenders.
-
They had a good run, we both were missing players, what could have been.
As for the rest of FCS, the fun continues for ndsu but the division as a whole is no where near as competitive as it was years ago. Too many of the top teams have moved up, not as interesting as it once was.
-
what does that say about YSU since we can't even get into the play-offs

It tells us that we let the wrong coach go 3 years ago.

UNC Charlotte would disagree :o

lol 1 year in a program that was ready to fire it's coach. I said he was a good coach, not a miracle-worker.

Haha I don't really care how many times he gets fired I just knew you'd have to run to his aid, I couldn't help myself.
-
Montgomery was not fired fron UNC-C. He left for JMU and the head coach (of UNC-C) was fired. Coach M was not fired from YSU either. No need to run to his aide, just upset that we let him walk away and have a bunch of HS coaches in charge. Meanwhile a consistent top team in the nation goes after coach M and gets him.
#1 in scoring
#2 in 3rd-downs
#10 rushing offense
#3 in passing efficiency
#6 red zone offense
#8 in time-of-possession
#3 in total yards regular season (almost 6,000)
#7 total offense
All of this helps equal #2 winning percentage.
-
Coach M can coach, our offenses under Kurt Hess were dynamic. It was the defense that was lousy. Major downgrade from Coach M to Brian Crist.
Pelini made it known he wanted a change, Coach M didn't want to leave, he was given little choice.

If he was so good, then why didn't we have a dominant offensive line. He may have been a good play caller, but he was not a great recuiter, and recruiting is >70% of the equation for success.
-
We had quality O-lines during coach M's tenure, with depth. Along with awesome backs & TE's. Now we had a bit less depth at WR, but they seemed a bit taller (to me). Besides we have far too many receivers under Bo.
-
JMU has better coaches. They recruit better and therefore are better. Period end of story!
