YSU Penguin Athletics / Penguin Baseball
« on: March 01, 2012, 04:48:43 PM »
Needless to say, I am very dissappointed by our start to the 2012 season. We have yet to win a game.
In 7 games we have:
-stranded 61 batters on base. This is because only the top-3 in our batting line-up average over 300.
-In contrast, we have had many runs scored on us (80), and our opponents have left 81 on base.
-Harless seems to be doing very well out of the bullpen.
-We have also allowed 13 unearned runs. I will tell you why ...because there have been 49 stolen bases against us.

Interesting stat:
Of the 80 runs that teams have scored in the first seven games, 41 (51 percent) have scored after there were two outs. Long Island scored eight two-out runs in YSU's last game, and N.C. Stats had eight runs with two outs on Feb. 18.

We need to turn this season around

great game !!!!! Is that the first DI complete game win? I did not see how close UWGB got. I know they trimmed it to 6, down from upper teens. Cannot let that happen.  If we play like this, we are going to win another. Ward and Eargle played well. Did either get their double-double?

Any word on ticket sales? I know Tuesday is a hard sell, but with this season's resume ...I think it will be a solid turn-out.

Sophomore Damian Eargle (Youngstown, Ohio) was voted to the Horizon League All-Defensive Team by the head coaches.

Perry is just the second player from Youngstown State to earn first-team accolades and the first since Quin Humphrey in 2006-07 and 2005-06. He is also the first sophomore in school history to be named first-team all-league.

The Horizon League Player of the Week for Feb. 6, Perry is just the fifth player in Horizon League history to lead the league in scoring (16.8 ppg) and steals (2.4 spg) during conference play and he led the league in all-games scoring with 16.8 points per game.

He also led the league with a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio and ranked second in steals (2.4), tied for third in assists (3.9) and tied for 10th with 1.8 3-pointers made per game.

Over the last nine games of the season, Perry averaged 22.8 points 2.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.9 steals per game while shooting at a 57.6 percent clip from the field. He also connected on 44.9 percent of his 3-point attempts and shot 79.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Also during that span, Perry scored at least 20 points seven times, including a career-high 30 points against Milwaukee on Jan. 31.

I normally do not agree with selecting a first-year coach ...but he has been with the club as an assistant.

5078
They announced the POY already, during the game broadcast. I forget whether it was the guy from Valpo or Detroit. Drew is coach the year.

no D ...no chance

you need to listen to WKBN as you are watching. These announcer-clowns do not even know we are playing the game.

Issue first half:

We are giving UDM everything, no contested shots at all.
We are go on an 11-0 runs and are down at the half.
This cannot happen. We need to be up by 11, after a run like that. Give us some defense.
Guin reserves playing well.

Go Guins!!!

Eargle Has Chance For 1,000
In under three seasons of playing college basketball, junior Damian Eargle has scored more than 800 points with 898. Eargle needs just 102 more points to reach 1,000 for his entire career, which includes 268 points during the 2008-09 season at UNC-Greensboro. Last season, Eargle ranked second on the squad with 339 points for an average of 11.3 points per game.

Perry On His Way to 800 Points
Sophomore Kendrick Perry could become the 33rd player in school history to score 1,000 career points. For his career, he is averaging 12.7 points per game, including a 16.7 points per game scoring average this year.

Hold Under 70
Another ingredient for the Guins to be successful is to hold their opponents under 70 points. YSU is 15-4 when not allowing its opponents to score 70 points or more. When allowing 70-or-more points, the Penguins are 0-9.

Perry First Soph With 30 in 20 Years

• Three starters rank in the top 20 in scoring in the Horizon League.

Eargle Second to 100 Blocks
Junior Damian Eargle has 113 blocks in 28 games this season, which ranks second on the YSU single-season list. He needs 26 more to set the single-season mark of 138 set by Ricky Tunstall in 1982-83. His 91 blocks last season now rank third on the list.

Eargle Second With 200 Blocks
With five blocks against Wright State on Feb. 23, junior Damian Eargle became just the second player in school history to accumulate at least 200 career blocked shots. Eargle has 204 blocked shots. The only player ahead of Eargle is Ricky Tunstall, who recorded 221 career blocks. He needs 18 more blocks to set the school's all-time blocks record. Counting his 57 blocks at UNC-Greensboro, Eargle has reached 261 blocked shots for his entire college career.

KP Back-to-Back 100-Assist Seasons
With three assists against Valparaiso on Feb. 11, sophomore Kendrick Perry reached to 100-assist mark for the second straight season. He is the first player since DeAndre Mays (2008-10) to post back-to-back 100-assist seasons.
