Worst offensive performance in many years.  Worst special teams performance in a while.

Trying to understand these posts
So many posts about how lucky YSU was to be able to keep Montgomery due to the demand for his offensive genius and the Penguins problems aren't his doing
#6 will be playing on Sunday's and his problems are the O-line and receivers
Substituting on defense takes the players out of synch.... now they were exhausted from being on the field so much
They fans don't show up to support the team and when they do... they never make noise
Maybe there is more than Bo that is con fused and disappointed

Don't think the offensive line coach should get a free pass either.  He was involved with recruiting and coaching and right now he gets a D-.

Yes, I watched the video.  Really think there is some major internal problem.
I was on a rant especially after what I heard from parents and a few fans.
I will take time to regain...

I do not see #6 even possibly playing on Sundays and I do not recall anyone saying it. Maybe #12 would have played pro had he taken another step forward, but it was not to be. Remember #12 improved 3 of 4 years here ... #6 has yet to improve.

IMO, #6's problems are his inability to read defense and seek out secondary receivers. When he was pressured, he had the tendency to throw the ball high. His eyes locked on the primary receiver the moment he left the LOS. He would throw the ball in there even with double or triple coverage.

I recall one play from the game yesterday, the primary receiver, tight end, went left and LB went with him. He was double covered. Martin Ruiz came out the backfield and went right. He was wide open and with nobody on him. #6 never even looked at him after seeing the TE being double covered. The play resulted in a 1 or 2 yards gain instead of possible long run by Ruiz up the right side line.

At this time, I don't care if he would play on Sunday. I am concerned whether he can play on Saturday.

Montgomery's biggest single problem is he can't block anybody.  The issue is "up front" and that is mostly due to injury.  You are starting your 6, 7, and 8th best OLinemen an when you need backups during the game you are at 9, 10, and 11.  Wells does need time, but Davis isn't the answer, because he can't block either!

Are we having "fun" yet ?  8)

1. Pelini's first recruit class was a stinker.

2. As I warned, the QB has issues. But the cheerleaders told you I didn't know sic em.

3. I predicted a 7-4 season, worse than Wolf, but also said all bets were off if they had injuries as there was no depth on the OL.

4. Keep that   hype coming as it exposes the AD in all the messes here ( MBB included).

5. Warning -- more "fun" coming.

6. And  NO -- attendance won't improve.

7. Finally, the D isn't all that great. Who gets credit for that  -- Pelini, the D genius or Stoops the "supposed" DC ?

And now back to the regularly scheduled hype program.

The funny thing is that you have said the same thing virtually every year that you have been posting here. That may even be 4-coaches. At least 3. SO while the rest of us are discussing what might help, you do not have that ability.

Why would they take that down?  That was extremely interesting to me.

That tells me the athletic department monitors this site.  There is some reason they don't want it shown, bit I can figure what that reason is.

Very funny, I-AA. In REALITY, I was INCREASING the predictions for WIN totals each year Wolf was here. Guess what ? The win totals INCREASED. I predicted the LOSING seasons  of Heacock BEFORE they happened.  THATS  THE FACTS !!

You run a hype  show here. Got exposed, poor baby.  The Great  Pelini ... the D genius.... masterful Nebraska coach...... local boy come home.... what could go wrong ?   ;D ;D ;D

I TOLD you LAST YEAR the QB had issues and still did THIS YEAR. What part of that did you miss ?

I told you at best 7-4 with Wolf's players but all bets were off if they had injuries because  t he OL had no DEPTH. How did I miss that ?

ROFLMAO.  Sleep well on this point --  Pelini gets $1.5 million each year for the next few years , no matter  IF he coaches or not. What ? You  say that $200K YSU pays him gives him "incentives" to coach well ? This is ANOTHER snafu of the AD that comes back to haunt the University. The THIRD RATE athletic  dept isn't off the hook for this one, baby.

But, hey, tell me again Pelini is a "genius".

BTW, nothing wrong with many of the players here. They are athletic, fast, strong and  quite   good.   Improved every year under Wolf  and looked at a good year this year too.

Keep that hype coming !!  8)

And now back to the regularly scheduled hype program.

Are we having "fun" yet ?  No this is going as expected, but not what I hoped for.

1. Pelini's first recruit class was a stinker. How so? 92% of this year's players are from Wolfman's tenure. #3 who plays light out is BP's and #57 a true FR is a LS, #91 is on the "D" as a back up.

2. As I warned, the QB has issues. But the cheerleaders told you I didn't know sic em. You got me there. What could you expect from a Wolfman recruit,,,

3. I predicted a 7-4 season, worse than Wolf, but also said all bets were off if they had injuries as there was no depth on the OL. No depth on the "O" Line? I guess YSU needs a review of the 17 scholarships given out to the "O" line and reconsider them.

4. Keep that   hype coming as it exposes the AD in all the messes here ( MBB included). What can you say? AD see's $$ signs before athletic excellence.

5. Warning -- more "fun" coming. Thanks I'm sure after Bo weeds out all the crapola players recruited here before his time we'll have some fun  :D

6. And  NO -- attendance won't improve. Agreed. Not until the playoff's come back.

7. Finally, the D isn't all that great. Who gets credit for that  -- Pelini, the D genius or Stoops the "supposed" DC ? Sorry the "D" is above average and will get better after YSU can find an "O" coordinator and football player tough and ready to play every week. I'm surprised on Stoops myself. Should have cleaned house (Monty and Stoops).

Funny how you mentioned the speed and athletism of the players brought here under W? I see big Mid western/Northern guys run circles around the fast kids at YSU  ;D

Paladin: Didn't you invent the internet as well?

-Who did not see issues with a frosh QB?

-Who expected anything spectacular from a first-year coach and staff? We may have expected a bit more when we had to take more from the media with the hiring of Carl, but we did get a good coach on D.

-Who did not scratch their heads when Stoops was moved to DC?

-Who on this board did not tell you that your "hated hype" will do you no good, as there were and still are not any expectations coming into 2015?

-Who did not tell you that Wolf's recruiting was all a hype ...yet you constantly bragged. (outside of NLOI day when you have to trash something)?

-I personally never said Pelini was anything, Quite frankly I did not want to hire him. However, I am very glad he is here and every year we keep him here is wonderful for the program.

-This might be hard for you to believe, but the executive AD is nothing but "a bean counter" at any school in the US that can afford more than one. Athletics all about the $$$ and be thankful yours (err uhmm ours) is a good one. As YSU now has one of the nicest campuses around. Imagine a commuter school when he came in and now a destination school for so many students and student athletes.

-Attendance. Are you not the one that spearheads "butts in the seats" campaign? Take a look at the stands, as I am actually quite impressed with attendance so far.

-You are nothing but a blow-hard, knowing that none of us would care enough to track your idiotic comments. But for those who might be sick of reading them ...you can click on "Members" and see all the versions of Paladin and look at his posts. Unfortunately, I do have to delete in order to keep the speed of the board up, but you can bet there is plenty more BS still on the board.

Funny that none of the bumpers are from last weeks game.  Sounds like Wells is the QB still.

Same strategy = same results.

Still sounds that way..seems like he's got Montgomery and Hunters back and believes in them and feels it all starts up front and around the Qb

Despite being in only a short time, Davis was the second leading rusher for YSU with 38 yards ( more than Ruiz and Webb combined) and had the second longest run.  Wells.....minus 5 yards rushing.

I've said all along to at least put Davis in a wildcat formation. It could be a weapon for this offense and he has a good enough arm to throw out of it..but it will probably never happen..but keep in mind how thin we are up front and our 3rd string Qb is M.I.A. and his return is questionable..this could go into the BP thought process

I like the idea of 2 QBs...or one non-Wells QB.  Seemed like that was the direction they were headed last week.  It's nice to have options other than make risky throws into double coverage) when no receivers are open...or the pocket is collapsing.  I gotta admit seeing Wells head onto the field for each drive was pissing me off.

Montgomery has to GO!!!
Title: Re: Pelini embarrassed and disappointed
Post by: penguinpower on October 20, 2015, 04:24:16 AM
Personally, I don't want a spread offense.  I want a multiple offense with a base of two tight ends, a full back and a tailback.  I also want a running QB, but I don't want to run him until it is absolutely necessary, and that might be during the playoffs when no team is expecting to defend it.  This dink and dunk offense will only get you so far and when you run into a solid defense you get shut down like Oregon.  I want to see A-gap power plays and throws to the TE.  I want to see the OL push the DL out of the way and I want to see the FB smash the opposing LB's.  Despite being old, nearly every top college team uses the old power offense.  The spread teams rarely make it and if they do it is because they have excellent depth, speed, and the ability to run a-gap power plays.

We ran fly sweeps about 10 times on first down and we were shut out nearly every time.  Difficult to watch.

I am more an old-school guy myself, but it is not what game of college football is anymore. We needed a spread O back in the early 2000's as GA Southern showed us back in 1999 and App State showed us back in 2006. I agree that it is more of an all or nothing game. This is why I do not watch the NFL anymore ...complicated offensive plays to get what a solid line and RB should easily be able to get you.

1-AA, like your post, but the teams that win consistently ARE the teams that block better and tackle better.  You watch NE, GB, etc. and they aren't that fancy, just better prepared and execute better than the other guys.  Good football still reminds me of the great Vince Lombardi.  You know what’s coming but you can’t stop it.  All the formations, all the movement, all the pre-snap reads, and you know what?  Winning and losing comes down to what happens at the line of scrimmage, same as always!

LOL Lennon is being politically correct  8). "IF" he studies the game of football he's licking his chops waiting on YSU's offense to come to town. 3 different running plays + the jet sweep and the occasional reverse with 6 to 81 then 4, 2 different dink and dunk pass plays and the long out pattern.
