Title: Basketball at WSU
Post by: IAA Fan on December 03, 2011, 03:44:02 PM
We are trying to give this one away late in the fist half. We were up by 15 points & now it is 2. Perry has 1 point.

9 of 15 from 3-point range at half. Ward, Eargle. Brooks all with 2-fouls.

Leads built on 8 of 11 shooting on three-pointers are not sustainable.  Team dug in late in the half.  We have been playing well, but YSU is not going to blow out anyone in the league on the road.

There is no inside game and WSU is converting every 3-point miss. We need to stop those long attempts.

much better, went inside and took advantage of 4 second change points to get the lead back.

Absolutely no penetration, all we attempt are 3 pointers. Coaching must allow the players to play an upbeat tempo game and make things will happen, I didn't see this happening.

Chojnacki is still lost! He needs to learn to be agressive inside or just sit on the bench. I had to turn the video off, I couldn't bare to watch anymore.

Maybe they will rally since I turned the game off.

Time out YSU - 35 seconds left - 14 on the shot clock.  Tie game.

Good time out - offense did not look good there.

why did we not foul? It is over.

Brooks looked like he going out to foul and slipped.  At the same time, Wright State's offense had broken down.  Mays was trapped at the top of the lane with nowhere to go.

Great play drawn up - thought Eargle's shot was going to fall.  Tough one to lose.

I would have signed up for 1-1 on this trip a week ago, but to be so close to 2-0.

Wright State's stat tracker was still in the first half when I looked a few minutes ago - but I think we once again are going to see huge minutes for our starters.  As we discussed earlier in the week, Coach needs to find some guys to give quality minutes.  Hard to get out and push the pace with 5 guys playing 31 plus minutes.

This game was really a chore to watch. Then to lose ...ughh! The entire second half was wait for the three, shoot, miss, long rebound WSU, drive to the basket, 2-points WSU. That was why we had 2-fouls to give. WSU was going to the basket at will with the good guys still looking for the offensive rebound off the three. I agree though Indy. I thought it went in as well.

Something is missing with our team.  Not absolutely sure what it is.  Not
coaching I am convinced of that.  We just can't seem to get it done; is that
lack of confidence?  Lack of know how?  Lack of enthusiasm?  I cannot come
to any conclusion.  I am still convinced Coach Slocum is good....IMO, the best
since Dom Rosselli, not as good as, but right next to.  Geez, I was so encouraged
after we beat Detroit.....WE CERTAINLY SHOULD HAVE WON THIS ONE.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP)—A.J. Pacher scored 16 points and Armond Battle added 13 to help Wright State rally and beat Youngstown State 63-62 on Saturday.

Wright State (3-5, 1-1 Horizon League) trailed 56-52 after Youngstown State’s Kendrick Perry knocked down a jumper. The Raiders fought back, taking a two point lead, 59-57, behind a layup by Battle with 3:40 left to play.

Pacher hit a 3-pointer to extend Wright State’s lead to five, 62-57, but Perry knocked down two free throws and Blake Allen hit a 3-pointer of his own to tie the game 62-62 with 1:32 remaining in the half.

Battle made a free throw with 1 second remaining to seal the victory for Wright State.

Wright State trailed by as many as 17.

Youngstown State (5-2, 1-1) outscored Wright State 38-32 in the first half but fell behind in the second, shooting 28 percent (7 of 25) from the field.

Something is missing with our team.  Not absolutely sure what it is.

Depth.  WSU was running players in and out of the game while YSU went primarily with their starting 5.  Once WSU started pushing the ball up the court more and forced YSU to run with them, YSU's shooters lost their legs and couldn't make shots.  YSU is 2-3 contirbuting bench players away from being really really good.  I think your starting 5 was much better than CSU's starting 5.

Pita--we're 5-2. Big D is right--as of now we lack depth but are light years ahead of where we were a few years ago. The only thing else missing is butts in the seats. We've won an OT game, a game by one, and a game by three. Relax. Take Ray for a walk!!

     Observations from afar:

(1)  During the last minute of the game YSU took a twelve foot turnaround jump shot which did not permit a good look at the basket.  WSU drove to the rim and drew a foul.  Coaching?

(2)  I agree with Indy that BROOKS' slip was the critical moment in WSU's last possession as it was "catch-up" after that.

(3)  CHOJNACKI was abysmal on defense.

(4)  At the post game press conference the WSU coach was effusive in praise of the Penguins, who he considered one of the better teams in the Horizon League and capable of contending for the championship.

IP ..so if we have no bench want is going to happen..as what usually happens after the new year this is a team that runs out of a gas due to depth issues  not the fault of the players but again we are getting very little from the Butler success when it comes to recruiting

We are now paying a huge price for Slocum's astonishing blunder last season, which many posters noted at the time.  We won two league games, and it was clear by mid-January that we were going nowhere in the standings.  Yet Slocum burned the redshirt from Chojnacki, then refused to give him many meaningful minutes.  That kid should have played at least four minutes each half in every game.  Now we are forced to bring in a basically inexperienced kid as soon as Eargle gets into foul trouble.  An extraordinary poor job of coaching.

Depth would have been better if Maymon in particular, and Brewer to some extent, would have been able to stay.

Lets hope some guys start to step up.
