Nick DeLuca will have season ending shoulder surgery. He is expected to return next season and be granted a medical redshirt
Too bad.  Clearly the best player in 1AA football.  He was the only thing holding NDSU from being totally "done," right 1AA?  Kidding of course.  I feel sorry when players are hurt, and l hope he recovers fully.  But I'll bet he doesn't come back next year.  This kid is NFL ready and will go with the draft.

Good point Wick.  I am tired of it too.  But  the fans who spend their hard earned money want to be heard and we are being ignored. It is what is I guess.
I'm also tired of these threads, and I'm not sure I buy into the "hard earned money" aspect.  Yes, hard earned, but not that much of it.  Good grief, look around as see what "entertainment" costs.  $79 and more for decent seats at Covelli.  $50-400 for seats to see the Browns and my GOD, it's the BROWNS!

That WIU game was the one in 1999. We were down 21-0 at the half and came back. We fouled them and the Leathernecks got 4-tries from the 4-yard line (or closer). We stopped them cold. I think that was the one where took the snap and ran out of the back of the end-zone taking the safety to avoid a possible game-losing fumble. Awesome game. Hecock lined the team up in a formation that looked like they were going to blitz & WIU pulled the guard and I think it was either Hightower, Vecchione or Mechling dragged the FB down.

My first YSU game was that huge comeback game against Central Michigan, back in 1972 or 73. I went with my dad, as he was interviewing for a job with the university and they let us sit in the president's box. Jaws was the QB and the big hero was Willie Packman. Everyone was covering Ferranti, as he had just caught a beautiful 60+ yarder for a score. So then Jaws fired anther 60+ yard pass to Packman. Great game. We stopped them late to preserve a tie. My first airline ride as well.

You have identified the WIU game exactly correct.   Thanks.  I couldn't remember the year and didn't have time right now to look.  By the 4th down it was about a foot.  For some reason we (my brother and I, also an alum, and also still a season ticket holder) were sitting on the East side so it was a pain to see the goal lines and the place was going nuts!
Great times at Rayen, Struthers, Austintown Fitch and finally Stambaugh.  I spent the majority of my working life at Stambaugh's.
That first game with Staubach was still Dike Beede coached.   Dom Rosselli MBB and Beede FB.  I have a basketball hoop set at about 6' for grandkids, and neither Dike on Dom could dunk on it, even in their prime!

One of my favorites was my first.  YSU vs. Pensacola Naval Base, with a QB named Staubach vs. Denny Klembara.  You know what they say, “you never forget your first!”  Even if we lost 58-38 and Rayen High School! (what a dump)
I remember the Scott Brunner (later of the NY Giants) lead Delaware Blue Hens comeback at Fitch High School.

The goal line stand in the last minute on the 1 vs Western Ill. Leathernecks in the mid-Tressel years.  Don’t know the year, but a hell of a game.

"I know that many of you may find this hard to believe, but I would not miss a YSU game against Slippery Rock for a chance to go to the NCAA FCS championship game or even the Superbowl ...so maybe I am weird."

Who's paying?  Honestly, the FCS championship is such a mess of people etc., I wouldn't go unless YSU were playing (unlikely).  But the Superbowl is kind of a bucket list event, and that would beat out “The Rock”!

I don't get the apparent uproar of bloggers so against a couple creampuffs along with a FBS team in the pre-league schedule.   You need to bring kids into the program and when else is Mays going to play?  He looks like the likely 2 year starter beginning in 2018 and he gets some time last Sat.  Same is true for all over the team.  Play of tough one, play a couple tune-ups and bring on the MVFC.  I'm fine with the schedule.  I'd have a lot more issues if I was paying OSU prices to see BGSU.

1AA, you should pick a different topic than knocking NDSU and Alabama.

Yes, most of us would love to see them both lose, but it shouldn't make us delusional!  I don’t agree that NDSU is “equal” with other multiply national championship schools.  I saw YSU play for the national championship 6 times and I thought we had the best players on the field ONCE.  I saw NDSU the last 5 and I thought they had a clear talent advantage ALL 5 TIMES.  They are clearly a superior program.  The most amazing game in YSU history? Not the 3 national championships when I didn't think we had the best talent, but relied on the best coach.  The most amazing win in YSU history is beating NDSU in Fargo 2011

How about this angle, games like Iowa and ndsu are bad for FCS. It just means that more and more 1A teams will stop scheduling FCS teams, heck I would. They have nothing to gain and everything to lose. Iowa now has zero chance of the play-offs. The big paydays will end soon and schools like us will be hurting.

Could not have been said any better. They need to be banned by the NCAA so that no region of the country is treated unfairly. Like the Midwest with the Big-10's refusal to play FCS teams.
I disagree 100%.  We all know how 1AA feels, but I still think there is a future back playing Kent, Akron, maybe adding Buffalo etc.  This would rule that out and I don't think it makes sense.  What does "region" have to do with it?  These 1AA conferences think travel is nothing.  If the Big 10 won't play us, we could go to the west or south.

They are done.
That’s it, stick to your guns!  Too late to back out now, no matter how ridiculous you sound!  We all knew how dumb your statement was last week, now the whole world knows!  Am I correct in saying MVFC 2 BIG 1?

"The MAC can kiss-off. No return ...no game. Any game scheduled with a MAC school must be home and home, with the MAC school traveling to Stambaugh FIRST."

1AA, I hate to say this but you are more than wrong, you are DAMN FAR WRONG!  I agree, I'd rather drive to Kent or Akron than watch Dayton etc.

Your right Go Guins..Not going to be easy!!
Like playing in the 2014-2015 SEC (but NOT 2016).  Maybe 2 or 3 of the best teams in the country left out of payoffs.  Same with 2 or 3 MVFC teams left out but better than half the teams in!
We just Need to go 5-3 in conference play and the rest will take care of itself..Head to head wins over a conference opponent with the same record is never a gurantee for a spot in post season these days
I agree.  But get me to 5-3 in the conference.  I see "trouble" with ISU, NIU, SDSU, NDSU, and I don't see SD, SIU, ISU and MSU as walkovers.  Personally I see more opportunity to go 3-5 than 4-4 and I don't see 5-3 anywhere. With the obvious youth at WR, the OL issues, but mostly the "back to a Wolford quality secondary", show me where you get the 5 wins?

Nick DeLuca wasn't even supposed to play in their last game because of a severe shoulder seperation. He comes into the game and can't even lift his one arm. He intercepts the pass with his other arm and takes it to the house from 70 yards away. Mr. Deluca and NDSU will say when it is over..
I agree, "done" is the results of activity on the field, not off, and especially not due to comments on blogs!  We probably should note the NSDU record is what.... 2-0 and last year at this point was what ...... 1-1 on their way to ANOTHER national title.   Maybe their best team, but YSU, at least on D, isn't as good as last year either.

1st off Go Guins we only play 11 games not 12. A 6-5 record will not get you in playing 2 N.E.C. Schools. A 6-5 record and playing Big Sky opponents and beating them will ☺
OK, you got me on the 11 vs. 12 but that increases the strength of my argument based on math, rather than weaken it.
You still have the same number of losses, just less total wins.  More chance of a losing record, not less.

Mostly, they are done because I say they are done :)

Finally, an honest man!  I know you know they are far from "done" but we can hope for a win Nov. 5!

Experts predict

"Experts predict" huh?  Experts predict everything from the sky is falling to the earth is warming.  An "Expert's prediction" and about $4.99 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks!
Math comes into play here.  10 teams, with 8 conference games.  That's 40 games lost. 6 non-conference losses so far, and unlikely to go 10-0 this week. So let's say the conference has 50 combined losses.
I see a lot of parity in the league and so I see about 3 teams 7-5 and 3 more 5-7  That's 2 on the top, + 3 @ 7-5 for 5 in the playoffs.  Math says for 6 there is just too many losses in the 5-7 group.  A couple would go to 4-8.  Based on logic, not "fan-talk," YSU is in the 5-7 group.  You bet I hope for 7-5 and playoffs, but I go game by game and I can't get there!
