How many more excuses are we going to make for a bad coaching staff?  The staff is junk!  The program is junk.  Win or lose this team is headed nowhere.  Sorry, but enough is enough!

The clown head coach who thinks he's a Tressel prodigy makes me want to puke too.  His BS talk of calling them "young men" makes me want to smash my head against the wall.

Go find another team to root for.

YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU extends Calhoun
« on: March 29, 2023, 12:27:28 PM »
College basketball insider Jon Rothstein is reporting Youngstown State men's basketball coach Jerrod Calhoun has signed a five year contract extension through the 2027-28 season.

Calhoun led the Penguins to 24 wins and their first  Horizon League regular season championship and was  the conference's coach of the year.

Since 1981-82, Calhoun has been the architect of four straight winning seasons and over the last four seasons have won 76 games which set a school record for most wins over a four year span.

In six seasons at YSU, Calhoun is 96-96.

It's always hard to judge how many folks are in the loges and I sit on the East side.

How many folks are usually in them?

Loges have been rather packed.

Some did and are doing fine

Really? And who might they be?

Let's look at the Top 25 and when their HC started

1. South Dakota State - 1997
2. Montana State - 2021
3. Sacramento State - 2018
4. North Dakota State - 2019
5. Jackson State - 2020
6. Chattanooga - 2018
7. Weber State - 2014
8. Holy Cross - 2018
9. Incarnate Word - 2022
10. Montana - 2018
11. Delaware - 2022
12. William & Mary - 2019
13. Samford - 2015
14. Southeast Missouri State - 2014
15. Fordham - 2018
16. Mercer - 2020
17. Rhode Island - 2014
18. UT Martin - 2006
19. Stephen F. Austin - 2019
20. Richmond - 2017
21. Austin Peay - 2021
22. Princeton - 2010
23. Idaho - 2022
24. Southern Illinois - 2016
25. New Hampshire - 2022

TWO coaches in the Top 25 started in 2020. TWO. One of them is Deion Sanders... who, his brand alone, sells. So if you take Sanders out of the equation, ONE head coach hired in 2020 has his team in the Top 25.

39
He has been given a fair chance just like the rest of the FCS has since the spring of 2021.   So lets no use that as an excuse

No... the point people are making is he was a BRAND NEW HC when Covid hit, so he couldn't even learn the job properly because of all the bs. Not every team in the FCS had new coaches during this time... you clearly missed the point.

Before waving the white flag on this team because of a halfway respectable loss to NDSU, let's judge them on their next slate of games...

vs. North Dakota (3-2)
vs. Indiana State (1-3)
@ Western Illinois (0-5)
vs. South Dakota (1-3)
@ Illinois State (2-2)
@ Missouri State (2-3)
vs. Southern Illinois (3-2)

We have a fairly decent stretch where we SHOULD win some ballgames... I see no reason why we can't win maybe 3-4 of those. Now, if they completely lay eggs against the likes of Western Illinois, Indiana State, and South Dakota... then panic and start calling for some BIG changes. But let's see what happens during what should be the easy part of the schedule.

And for the record... not a Crenshaw fan either.

with the transition occurring with the Miami Dolphins... it would be cool if DP could find a role for Curt Kuntz (former Struthers HC). Having that NFL experience and being able to connect some dots at the next level could be helpful with recruits/transfers. Bring him home!

Kuntz is a heck of a coach.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: ND game day

We have been on a 1O year plan since Heacock left.  Recruiting will be harder with a few more teams leaving to go to FBS.  James Madison etc Jacksonville St .  This team is a mess and will be a mess for another 3-5 years.  The vision of where our program should be league wise and all the other programs is a joke. Football dynamics have changed kids that we got before under Tressel are going FBS more schools in the loop to offer etc.  The only way to get this fixed is we need an influx of cash donors and getting better coaches that come with it.  Hoping Phillips to get us to be a champion is a pipe dream.  Again Dollar General Budget gets you this product.  Wolford could recruit and what did that get us 8-4 7-5. Yes we were runner up with Pelini but it took a catch by Rader that was the catch of the decade.

Good luck increasing the budget when academic programs are getting cut.
