YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU vs St. John's on Fox Sports 1 today at 2PM
« on: December 21, 2013, 10:23:28 AM »
So bothered that no one seems to notice we will be on national tv today. This is great exposure for the university and the team. These kids and coaches put in tireless work to get better every day and we need to support them. I have a feeling it will be a good day for us.

GO PENGUINS!!!!

Actually we are a better team when we share the ball more and get the ball to the open guy. Teams don't respect our other players because we don't count on them enough. Hain and Weber are capable of playing with anyone.  KP is a great player but he tends to become selfish and never drives and dishes to open guys. This is a team. When they have played like a team and several guys score 10 or more we have won. Check the stats.

APSU is a good inside team--YSU is not--so APSU had lots of inside shots all night.  The YSU offense was plenty good enough to offset this. IMO, the loss is on KP.  Although he had a great game, in the last five minutes he made some poor decisions--tried too much to be fancy and be the hero and didn't rely enough on his teammates.  He has some good shooters accompanying him--doesn't need to do it all himself.
Agree with this because looking at the box score you had Hain and Weber with way too few attempts in the minutes they played.  We should have buried this team if we played like one. However the coaches should be telling our players what to do and not just letting them make the decisions i.e. KP.

Once again this loss goes back to coaching. Why do you not sub in someone like Weber and Hain when Canisius started their run and we got complacent. He has no confidence in the kids he brought in and hes worked with all season. It gives them no confidence and shows he coaches scared instead of being aggressive. It has been the same all
year. If the younger kids do anything wrong he jerks them and they sit but the starters can give up on defense and lose leads and he rides them into the ground. The only sub he uses is amiker who cannot shoot the ball. The technical foul was all Slocums fault too.

He left Eargle in the game way too long with how poorly he was playing and could have used Hain who has proven he can play and score. Weber came in and was really good again and he doesnt play much in the second half until we need his fouls?? Come on coach get your head out of your backside and quit playing your starters just because... your team is better than this but you arent.

Sorry but it was about bench play yet again. When your starters no matter what their name is play like ours did you take them out and let someone else play. You never know what can happen. The player you put in could go off or better yet the starter comes back in with a renewed effort after realizing he can be replaced. Our insistance that we ride them to the end is the reason we lost this game. Good job coach! Hain played great, but Weber had 3 minutes, Amiker doesnt play, Josh barely plays and Podolsky would play hard if he got in. We just dont give them a chance when we clearly needed to tonight.

This game was so poorly coached I can't even put it into words. You don't ride the same horses all game that are not putting you in position to win. This is absolutely the worst team in the league that I have seen this year and we should have beaten them by 20. The personnel choices by this coach are ridiculous and there is no way to justify it .Our starting lineup played like they didnt even want to be out there in the first half and he should have taken all of them out. They dont play hungry and it just makes me sick. NO WAY WE SHOULD HAVE LOST THIS GAME! WE need better coaching plain and simple. Sorry but it is true.

I have to correct you on the facts a little. We actually grew the lead when Weber and Chojnacki were in the game by 5 points. The leads were lost by the starters and in the second half and there was only 1 sub the entire half which was Amiker for less than a minute. . Just saying down the stretch we will struggle trying to beat the best teams with tired players if we don't use our bench more.

We have to be seriously concerned with this coach's choices. You cannot win against the "good" teams in this league without using your reserves a lot more than we do. I thought we had our best recruitiing class and deepest bench we have had.  So then why do they play less and less as the season goes on. It just does not make sense. I am really glad we are winning some games and wonder what the outcome would have been in the close ones we lost since we just wear our starters out every game.

Actually many high level teams play lesser competition early in the season. Check out the IU schedule and you will see. They are the #1 team and their early games were all patsies. YSU has a tough schedule besides these so I don't mind this short stretch of catching your breath games. It gets tougher and stays that way soon.

If the reserves had been given more minutes in the first 2 games we might have been able to have legs last night. They obviously are more capable than we knew. All of the other teams we played shared a lot more minutes and had fresher legs than we did. KP will be targeted every game and he has to help himself by sharing a bit more to open shooters. In crunch time last night he was just trying to do too much and it didn't work. It is early enough for the team to get a lot better and I believe they will. We have 2 very good looking freshmen who will just improve with playing time.

I am absolutely a large supporter of our team. Just calling it like I see it on the court. I am worried we wont make it past halftime tonight if we dont use our so called depth the coach said we had this year. Most other teams we have played have significant minutes played by their reserves. There is a reason for that. The end of the game is when the legs go.

There will be no change in the outcome of games like this until the coach shows more confidence in his reserves and plays them. The starters have no legs left. It is laughable that the other team's 7th man has more minutes than our entire bench. You have to give the starters rest and the reserves the experience if you want to have a good season. Other teams we play do it every night. Why is our coach so blind....kids dont get better by playing their teammates in practice. They need game experience. Manage it!!!

Maybe if the coaching staff had used the recruited talent they have on the bench the starters wouldnt have given up 10 points in the last 2 minutes. It is a travesty that there are players who dont get a sniff at the court who were highly recruited when some of our starters are just mediocre on offense especially. We should be subbing 10 deep on this team and we have a coach who is old school archaic and wont use the people he recruited. I am afraid we will see the transfer bus revved up at the end of this season if it continues. Kids who have alot of offers and places to go should get a chance on the court when we are up by 20 points. Pitiful....
