YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU's biggest problem.
« on: November 14, 2011, 11:03:48 AM »
Thinking about this weekend, I've come to the conclusion that we need a better kickoff guy plus coverage team.  I can't believe with all the guy's on the team someone can't kick the ball from the 40 to the goal line or end zone.  The Defense is always covering a short field because of this.  Last week at NDSU we would have been better served if we would have just kicked the ball out of bounds :(

YSU Penguin Athletics / Crazy scenario!?
« on: October 27, 2011, 01:28:32 PM »
:o Do you all realize (BIG) "IF" YSU, ISU (r) and (b) all win out and UNI beats NDSU this week we'll all end up 8-3 as long as UNI and NDSU take care of business other than the games they have left with us and ISU (R~B).  fb

Bottom line 5  8-3 MVFC teams who all goes to the playoff's and who's left out?  OR do we all go?  ;)

My prediction on this week's game:  ::)

YSU 42 - 27  ;D

YSU Penguin Athletics / YSU to the Big East??
« on: October 26, 2011, 08:52:14 AM »
They are going to be looking for 7 "only" football schools.  The Geographic's is right.  Recruiting would be better (more attractive) for big time recruits etc...

Thoughts?

YSU Penguin Athletics / What "IF"??
« on: October 25, 2011, 08:40:46 AM »
"IF" we beat WIU to go to 5-3 will YSU crack the top 25?  The reason I ask is; what's the new fascination with ISU (R) at 5-3 and jumping way up in the polls when we beat them pretty handily??

Just sayin........  :-\

Cut backs everywhere  ::)

"Following a six-hour meeting in late September, the [NCAA] Resource Allocation Working Group, chaired by Georgia President Michael Adams, agreed to consider a reduction in FBS football scholarships from the current number of 85 to 80 and a reduction in the number of FCS football scholarships from 63 to 60. The reductions would likely follow a move toward a full cost-of-attendance scholarship that is expected to be passed in early 2012."

YSU Penguin Athletics / How tough is it going to get for us next year?
« on: October 13, 2011, 10:09:23 AM »
South Dakota Coyotes coming into the MVC and already making noise knocking off the ranked teams in FCS and being ranked #15 themselves.  Two trips to the Dakotas for the Guins in a given year YIKES!!!!!!!

No. 15 South Dakota Coyotes (4-2) at Illinois State Redbirds (3-3), 4 p.m.

Series record: First meeting

Last meeting: None

What to know: In the midst of a transition from Division II, South Dakota will get a look at its new conference on Saturday. Currently a member of the Great West, the Coyotes will join the Missouri Valley Football Conference next season.

With South Dakota relying on a run-heavy offense (191.66 ypg) and Illinois State boasting the FCS' third-ranked rush defense (68.5 ypg), this game will likely be won or lost by whichever unit can win the push at the line.

South Dakota has won both of its FCS games this season, defeating then top- ranked Eastern Washington and then-No. 22 Southern Utah.

Prediction: Illinois State 24, South Dakota 17

We'll see but I'm thinking SDU beats ISU (R)  fb

YSU Penguin Athletics / I say screw the Offense!
« on: October 12, 2011, 11:52:08 AM »
OK After getting our azzes handed to us in 2006 by Appy State many on here called for a PRO style spread "O".  Here we are 5 + years later and still the laughing stock of the MVFC/FCS.

I say bring back the 3 yards and a cloud of dust and a Killer "D" Remember the 97 Championship Guins? I do  8)

See below  ;D

Missouri Valley - Here's a conference that's going the way it was expected, but how about the North Dakota State defense, which is playing like the 1985 Chicago Bears - surrendering 46 points in five straight wins. The defense was so good in beating Southern Illinois, 9-3, on Saturday that the Bison won despite not gaining a first down until five minutes remained in the third quarter.
