It would be pretty cool to know that we beat the national champ

I tell this, we had so many mentions this past week; I hope it pays some dividends. Last night we had mentions on both national TV and radio

I expect that the best team will win the national championship tomorrow evening, and the best team ain't Connecticut. ;)

It is amazing. They're 3-1/2 point underdogs versus Connecticut. Butler has beat the spread every game in this run. I wouldn't want to bet against them.

Wow!! What an incredible run by Butler; GO BUTLER!!  Beat UCONN

What a feather in the hat for the Horizon League, not to mention the extra money for the League.

If Butler did not win the post season tournament I do not think they would have gotten in.  Now they are in the championship.  What a run.  They sure can play some defense.

Right on with the defense.

I am so impressed with Butler's composure and their fundamentals.

Howard Smith Marshall and the guards do a tremendous job with position for rebounds.

Playing against a press hurts them obviously, but they may not have to worry about that vs UCONN.

Nice contributions from their bench and they dictate pace masterfully.

Stevens makes all the right moves.

This is what can happen to a team when their players aren't leaving early every year.

Was great to see UK and Calipari go down, that's really what I was rooting for, the title game is just gravy for me now.

I tell this, we had so many mentions this past week; I hope it pays some dividends. Last night we had mentions on both national TV and radio

I can see it now:

College recruit: "hey mom, I want to go to YSU. They beat Butler this year."
Mom: "never heard of that school, lets find out more"
Recruit " I just went online, it seems like they are one of the worst D1 programs in the last 25 years- nevermind"

Get real. A mention that Butler's last loss was at the hands of this wretched program is meaningless!

Nova,
100% agreed.   Beating Butler will not get us better recruits.  We need big guys who can play and Slocums top prospect is a 5-9 guard from Akron SVSM.  What the hell is he thinking?
At least we can hope for 2011 Football to be better because b-ball at YSU is going nowhere.

I cannot agree. Any mention is a good mention. {I was hoping that the national media would pick up more on the off-campus shootings}. In one week, the average person will not know any reason why we were on the news ...just that we were the team that beat Butler. You act as though we are going to attract "big-name talent" here. We are a small-time program looking to transition ...this is a great thing for us. There have been no less than a couple dozen mentions of YSU. Slocum has done well on all the interviews ..as have the players. No, this is not going to sell a rivals-100 player ...who cares? They should get little more than a form-letter from us anyways. Slocum does a good job of finding "fringe" talent, and this goes a long way there. The local impact is immeasurable. The impact on our current players will be as well.

Nova......perhaps the parent son conversation would go more like this.....
Son....geez, why would I want to go to YSU....fans on their
sports talk website, especially a "Nova person", would way rather give the
team a kick in the butt, than a helping hand of support when they are
DOWN

Don't mean to be critical of you, but you do get on my last nerve, with
your sarcastic summation.

GO PENGUINS

Just being a realist. The only thing that can help this team is WINNING. A mention on ESPN will not help recruiting to a place where 10 wins is considered a good year. Either find a coach and spend the money to compete, or drop to division 2.

Pita--Nova75's problem stems from NOT having any solid, meaningful conversations with his own father. I don't believe he's necessarily a bad person, just one who didn't (and still doesn't get) any proper fatherly advice.

You can knock Nova all you want but all you experts know he hit it right on the head.  I work in Akron and noboby even knows we beat Butler.  We beat Butler but lost to Loyola by 30 at home and by 30 to Robert Morris on the road.  If you think Slocum does the best he can bringing in "frindge" talent then you must be on crack or smoking the wacky tobacco.   Our recruiting sucks because we lose 20 games a year every year period. Winning solves everything and not being a guest on some stupid talk show.   Shouldn't Slocum be out recruiting instead of being a Buter reality star.  Signing date is April 13th and little is known as too who we are recruiting other than the 5-9" kid from Akron who will get eaten alive in the Horizon league.  It is bad enough we cannot recruit Ohio but waste our recruiting budget on Juco's all over the country when Ohio and PA have plenty of talent.

We just tell it like it is.

I would love for YSU to get good at basketball. I wouldn't go see the product they've had for the last 10 years for free. Let's face it....until they start winning they will be a Siberia of D1 basketball. A place to go after JUCO when no one else is calling or as a last resort because you really want to say you played D1 basketball. The truth hurts, but that is the talent level here.

The facts that you think "frindge" is a word, that Slocum is a "Buter" reality star, and, most importantly, somebody in the dregs of the earth (Akron) employed you, tells us all we need to know about you.

Uh - no he shouldn't be out recruiting.  Its an NCAA no-contact "dead" period from March 31 until April 7.   Final Four is always a dead period - and the annual coaches convention.

Butler comes in flat and we got lucky and beat them...Butler players are embarrassed and get their ass chewed out and are lights out the rest of the season...instead of a program defining moment YSU goes 1-7 the reast of the way and loses in the first round of the league turny...and our 1 win wasnt even a league win..2-16 in the league..next to last place...Slocum is a hot  on the sports radio and tv circuit because of Butlers success...isnt America wonderful...and now we are waiting for our stimulus package that Butler earned the league...LOL

Ip,
I seem to get under your skin.  You must be related to slocum or just like losing.  By the way nobody employs me I run my own business of 200 employees that probably keeps you employed unless you work for ysu which I suspect you do.    I would like to see YSU win more than anyone.  Don't worry about grammer worry about YSU winning.

Please recruit someone other than a 5'9" point guard.  I want some damn big men that can atleast hold their own on the boards.  Eargle can't do it by himself.

The truth is that UConn played YSU/HL basketball, and won. They played all half-court ball and defense. Butler had 4-to-1 advantage under the basket, as UConn players all rushed to set their defense, and the one remaining UConn player still came down with the rebound every time.

FYI, these interviews for Slocum are great, and can do nothing but help us out. If it does absolutely nothing for us ...then what did it hurt?
