Has anyone else noticed that it seems like we never run the ball to the left side? I’m surprised they when our run game stalled out in the second half that Montgomery didn’t at least try to run to the left.

This is the match up that will decide this game.

NDSU Defense has been on fire (yea cupcakes mostly, but still)
plays yards  ypp   Td's   yards per game
1   North Dakota St.   5   251   795   3.17   3   159.0
2   Illinois St.           5      303   1097   3.64    9     219.4
3   James Madison   5   321   1156   3.60  7   231.2

NDSU with 3 td's allowed and 159 yards per game far and away crushes the fcs.

NDSU has their All American MLB Nic Deluca back,,, NG Nick Tanguay as well.

Maybe that's why BO is desperately trying to get hunter wells back, to add a wrinkle in the QB run game?

Hunter is by far the least mobile of our qbs, Bo wants him back because he’s the best passer by a long shot

#1 = NDSU should be FCS. 88-7 and  5 titles and a 9-3 record to FBS.. Nuff Said.  Sorry.

#2 = in 2013 NDSU had at least 1500 fans down there in youngstown, 1000 fans in 2015... id say the same this year, its Pheasant Hunting opener up here and Vikings Packers game so alot of us are doing those things instead of coming down.. Sorry!

#3 = yelling Bison at the end of the anthem isn't disrespectful at all.. we sign the entire anthem!

1. Did you mean shouldn’t? Look, as long as NDSU has 63 full scholarships just like the rest of us they “belong” in FCS.

If he gets us back to Frisco he can miss every press conference the rest of the year for all I’m concerned.

These guys do an excellent job.  Too bad we don't have this type of coverage.  I watch their stuff every week because nobody covers the MVFC like these two. I appreciate their points of view and they are respectful to every team but still tell it like it is.

Wow that was really well done. Thanks for sharing!

LETS GET IT ON!

I Don't expect NDSU to lose a game this year, sorry, but I personally feel that NDSU doesn't belong in the FCS, maybe Youngstown doesnt either??

NDSU's offense will be the only question mark going into this game as they haven't faced a defense yet, 5 straight cupcakes gets ya fat!

NDSU Defense is top notch, so I'm expecting a similar game to 2013 (when I graced Youngstown with my presence) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwGGdg3Ia2M   35-17

LOL ... this topic has been discussed on this board for years now ...long before we even heard of NDSU. As I have told many YSU fans I will tell you. Being a team that no FCS team can afford summer camp time to prepare for does not make you (or YSU) a IA/FBS team. Not to mention we both lack facilities, although ours are a bit more deserving. Please do not respond with "Dome talk" It is a basketball area with turf, just as UNI is. Also let's not talk weather, you are a plain state. Try being just south of a great lake and being pummeled by moisture all winter ...you will then know what bone-chilling cold is all about. Try recruiting in a state with more than 2 DI programs and having your natural rivals being IA ... not I-AA and DII. Try recruiting in a local region that is highly touted and scoured by bigger clubs and a general region of over 70 DI programs ...instead of 7. We all have our good and bad. Your run will end, just as ours did (and GSU's, Marshall's, Appy State and EKU's did before you) and people will wonder what ever happened to those Bison. Hope you move up and you will be as irrelevant in the college football world as Nevada, Boise State, WKU and many others that did the same. If YSU moves up people may wonder the same, but at least fans will be able to travel to away conference games after a stop at a gas station ...not an airport.

So, back to the current game at hand.

We’ll put , I didn’t mean to start a tangent the phrase “belonging in FCS” triggered me haha.

Careful what you wish for there. I wonder how Appalachian state fans feel never getting to compete for a national championship again lol. Both NDSU and YSU  have good enough teams to compete in FBS, but “belonging” is a different issue all together.

http://www.valley-football.org/ Well we dropped from 3rd to 8th this week. Still cant believe Central Arkansas, Wofford , SDSU are ranked ahead of us just ridiculous. I did get a chance to watch the Western and Northern game from Saturday. Both teams are more then capable and the Panthers should have never lost. That will be a tough game in Iowa fot the Guins

Yeah... the SDSU game wasn’t a fluke it was a pretty convincing win, I have no idea what the logic of SDSU ranked higher is. And SD barely escaped with a win at Home, they should be 1 maybe 2 spots higher than us, not 4.

Oh well I guess maybe a lower ranking is better, hoping the bison overlook us

At least on the bright side we probably have a better chance of beating NDSU now. Got to think our weaknesses were exposed and the players and coaches will come at the Bison with a little chip on their shoulder.

As much as no one likes to admit it , the SD game was kind of a trap game, sure they were highly ranked and we definitely respected them, but SDSU and NDSU are always THE big games. I'm thinking we may have been looking past the Yotes.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Eric Wolford Interview
« on: September 23, 2015, 10:25:50 PM »
Interesting. I was under the impression that the decision to let wolford go was seperate from ysu picking Bo. YSU  didn't bring bo in until late in the process and they interviewed a number of other candidates. I find it hard to believe that once tress become president he had this scheme to bring in bo and get rid of wolford. Pretty sure it was just time for wolford to go, not a political/ favoritism type thing.

People, do not feed the troll.  This man (through his five screen names) is trying to turn this message board into a joke, and you are playing right into his hands.
What are the other four?

edpuskas, 1a4YSU, Kandras, FOOTBALLFOREVER  ???

I'm neither an alter ego or a troll... I just have unorthodox views.

I disagree on the skepticism of his ability to succeed at the next level.

Actually his experience recruiting at the non-scholarship level could give LL a pretty big advantage.

Think about it, for his entire recruiting career so far has had to recruit guys based solely on selling the idea that his program will be successful and that the player will fit into his system etc.

D3 coaches like Liepold have had to learn to sift through mediocrity and find guys who were special that nobody at higher levels noticed, having that kind of skill and having to rely only on your sales pitch and the value of your program can be nothing but good for a coaches ability to recruit. Adding money to that mix just gives a great recruiter another tool to sweeten the pot IMHO.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: LUKE FICKEL LEADING CANDIDATE AT YSU
« on: November 29, 2014, 05:37:52 PM »

Quote
Anyone that pays attention to OSU football knows that Luke's salary and job keeps getting demoted.  He made 650K in his one year as head coach at OSU.  He made 600K as co-defensive coordinator last year and was making the play calls as DC.  His salary dropped to 450K this year and although he kept the title of co-DC, he no longer makes the play calls on defense for OSU.  Chris Ash does now.   Luke is basically a linebacker coach with a glorified co-DC title now.  He is never going to get a HC job at a major university the way things stand.  I could see him taking another pay cut to become the head man at YSU.  It would allow him the chance to prove himself as a coach and I believe he will think it will give him the chance to become head man at OSU when Urban retires.  He has no shot at that now if he stays at OSU as LB coach.

That's a really good point, I had the 600K figure in my head,  450 certainly makes a paycut a little more plausible. I've also heard that he doesn't get along well with Urban. Not to mention the fact that Tressel can recruit, I think Tressel could make a compelling case to Fickel on the merits of coming to YSU, rebuilding a program and getting some HC chops.

Just in case anyone was wondering about cost of living differences, according to CNN a 450K salary in Columbus is equal to $436,824 in Youngstown... I was hoping maybe that could be factor but hey we may need every thousand we can get to get him.

Lol good try... Rumors are he might be heading to Oregon once Mariota leaves.

Yeah, I've heard Boston College as a potential destination as well. I just couldn't resist fantasizing about Braxton putting up outrageous numbers at YSU.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Crazy Theory: Braxton Miller Transfers to YSU
« on: November 29, 2014, 05:13:29 PM »
I know it's nuts, but hear me out.

He's got to transfer anyway, if JT recovers in time, I doubt he can win the job back from him. So why not come dominate at a lower division? Here are some reasons it's plausible (okay maybe plausible is a strong word)

1) Tressel connection, Tressel recruited him, maybe he could sell him on the merits of being a penguin.
2) Guaranteed starting job.
3) Basically guaranteed national championship (well... that may be the most disputable)

Yes, it's totally ridiculous but at least fun to think about, mostly because of the Tressel thing.

I think if we can get it some traction on social media and a little momentum we can get this to turn into a legitimate albeit ridiculous discussion in mainstream sports news.

I know all the reasons it wouldn't work... what we need is more reasons it COULD work! Here's our opportunity for a grass roots revitalization of the program!
