YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Saturday's Crowd....

I have mixed thoughts about the game being televised the same night. I like it because it allows me to see the game twice, but I also believe as some have posted that it makes it too easy for the casual fan to do something else during the day, save the price of the ticket and watch the game in your favorite chair. And if we lost the game they will watch something else. My hope is that we make some money for the rights and that some people might like what they see and start coming to the game.

I could make a case for any starting time, I would just like for all of the games to be at the same time. 4:00 would be my pick, allows for travel, can get things done around the house before the game and stop for something to eat after the game.

I think that the 7:00 start has problems because of the perception of safety while being in the city after dark. I have only missed maybe 4 home games since 1974 and I have NEVER had any such problem, but I believe it would concern some.

As I recall even during the "Glory Years" we were not filling ever seat until after the 1st or 2nd NC. It is a tough, fickle crowd. If you win and win and win the "fans" will come.

Ticket prices play into it also, population in the area is shrinking and good paying jobs are scarce. Tickets, parking and concessions add up for some folks, especially when you can watch it later at home.

At some point during our 90's run it became fashionable to be at the games, it was the happening place to be. formally casual fans were hooked.

There are more students living on campus but most still commute, That second drive in seems to be a problem for them. I saw a few games while a student but did not get hooked until my last year so I can understand somewhat.

Sure wish I had a magic wand but it just is not a simple fix, I do know that butts in the seats helps the team and recruiting. Grab your friends, your kids, coworkers, etc and fill the place.

YSU has had a solid run of conference Players of the Week this year. It marks the seventh consecutive week that a Penguin was honored by the league for a performance.

It would seem that we have some talent on this team, go figure.

Great job guys, keep it up

It may be an understatement but man it looked like a different offense today, but they did what they had to do and got the job done. The defense let them off the hook after two great punts around the 1, not happy with the 99 yard drive, buuuut they also got the job done. It is one thing to win when all cylinders are clicking but it is also very important to wins games like we did today.

Before today, South Dakota had failed to score more than 17 points in any game, although their defense was quite good.  After our performance today, at least now we will not take them lightly in two weeks.  So UNI goes from beating Iowa State and then almost beating NDSU on the road to 0-3 and last in the conference.  That was capped off by blowing a 28-7 lead to a previously anemic offensive team.  Could not happen to a finer group of fans.

Ha Ha HA, I agreed about their fans!

What a pathetic crowd!  Come on people this team is 7-1, 4-0 in the league.

Agreed, crowd was embarrassing, no excuse. Big deal it rained for a while, rain gear is cheap. Team deserves better, really ticks me off.

Also why in the world would Dave Sess get married the day of a game? Give me a break!

All this talk about play-offs, this record that record is cool but all that matters is packing the house this Sat for a win over WIU.

YSU Penguin Athletics / Re: Wolford a candidate at Miami (OH)?
« on: October 09, 2013, 07:57:07 PM »
I do not see it, no dis-respect to Wolf but why would Miami want him? Meaning just that to this point he has not won anything yet. No titles!

Why would Wolf want Miami, only thing would be the money but it is not like it would be 7 figures. The mac is not "big time" which is where I believe he wants to end up.

Miami would be smart to take the approach that OU did.

Mangino is the TE coach and has nothing to do with the D. Now lets get real........... neither SIU nor  INS is top tier in the MVFC. Best wait till we match up with NDSU & UNI. Then discuss it.

Maybe not top tier but you have to make the needed adjustments no matter who you are playing. I agree that in the last couple of games the coaches have done a good job.

Here you people go again... We won the game. Your not supposed to be playing your best football right now. We are good against the run, so obviously teams are gonna pa$$ the ball against us. We ALL know this!! Our pa$$ defense is bad.... WE ALL KNOW THIS. I've never seen so many people complain over a team that won a game. The defense made some plays when it had to. Pick 6 turned the game around. You guys gonna complain that Smith didn't run fast enough to the end zone? Yes the defense has it's problems, but I see improvement. Teven and Travis Williams are all over. Rivers off the edge is getting a good pa$$ rush. The Offense did have a bad game, but we still ended up winning the game.... Ok I'm done for the night. Enjoy this win people. GO GUINS!

A voice of reason!
