YSU MBB opens up with Kennesaw State, Florida International, and Eastern Kentucky in the Kennesaw State tourney beginning tomorrow night. I don't know too much about KSU, but the computers seem to like our chances against them and against FIU. EKU is going to be a tougher opponent, but the key this weekend is to go 3-0 or 2-1. Games against this competition, MidMajors, should allow some younger players have a chance to make a statement early. Recall Hain had 20+ against G. Washingtom last year.
Eager to see what the four freshmen will do.
Prediction for the year... 21 wins.

Hopefully Slocum doesn't screw it up

I agree with Valley Talk on this weekend, but I am far less sure about the prediction of 21 wins. The lack of movement off the ball in the second half of last year's Canisus game still stings and is indicative of the sloppy bball and I believe poor coaching that is indicative of this team. I guess this is a rather convoluted way to say that I'll believe it when I see it. Hoping my skepticism is proven wrong.

Last season was Slocum's best team and the weakest the Horizon has been since YSU joined, yet the Guins were 7-9 in conference and didn't even advance to the semi-finals of the conference tournament. 21 wins would be great, but I'm thinking more like 17-14.

Kennesaw State I just saw brought in 2 D1 transfers. One is 6-11 from Auburn, the other 6-10 from Miami (OH). Ouch. Bobby and Kam better get ready.

I agree, it will be a stretch for YSU to win 21 games. Losing Ergle will be significant, he was a defensive force inside and we have no big men to fill those shoes. Perry needs a lot of help, and I'm sure someone will step up, but I still doubt we get 21 wins.
We will probably be about a .500 team and finish in the middle of the conference. Sure I would like a 21+ win season and national attention winning @ UMass, St. Johns and Pitt. In fact winning one game from any of those three would be great.
Good luck Penguins!!

YSU up 34-21 at halftime. Weber with 11 and Perry with 10 points and 6 boards. Strong half. Need another to close this out easily.
-
Guins win 73-57. KP with 20, Weber 18, Belin and Keene with 10 each.
Comfortable margin throughout the second half but could not completely blow it out.
FIU tomorrow at 3:00.

Solid start, but still eager to see some of the freshmen get more playing time. I anticipate that happening in the weeks ahead, but the key is to get our starting lineup set early and get your first 3 off the bench set.

Weber played pretty well. Has a nice 3 point stroke. KP is just KP. Everywhere. Good win

Keene was the first guy off the bench and played 20 minutes. He clearly looks like a rotation player. Steward had two minutes in the first half. Plummer did not play. Wonder if Plummer is going to be redshirted?
-
Anybody know if Amiker or Larry Johnson Jr played??
-
Amiker played 12 minutes. Had 4 points. Johnson did not play
-
Indy--don't believe the plan is to redshirt Plummer--don't know why he didn't play. People are going to like Keene. He's a waterbug, has a great deal of confidence and can play. Plummer can also play. He may have some sort of injury. Don't look for Johnson with exception of blowouts. He's the only non-scholly player.
-
From what I heard, Plummer is a very good shooter. Could be a weapon off the bench
-
My morning paper has YSU a one point favorite over FIU today

Went to YSU game last night... penguins looked pretty good overall. It was my first time watching them in person, thought Perry and Webber were best two players and very impressed with Webbers' shot. Hain has nice stroke from foul line but had trouble finishing around hoop.
As for KSU they have alot of D1 players coming into the program after winning only 5 games the previous two years, they are still a work in progress. EKU will be tough game for YSU this tournament. It was good to see alot YSU fans at the game as a YSU alum and father of two KSU students.

I have all the faith in the world in this team.... Just not the head coach.
