The Bisons really don't have any more talent than everybody else Really.  You need talent and size and speed. They have all 3.  They know what to Recruit for their schemes.  They have a true identity and get good coached football smart players.  We are still searching for that identity.  We need a balanced offense period.

Making this a short analysis.  Defense did their job. Defense did their job.Defense did their job! Both lines imposed their will in the 4th qtr.  Special teams have been fantastic.  This game should have been won by us and we did ....Redbirds gift wrapped us a score when they all out blitzed Ricky on 3rd down.  I give him credit he made the play on that. We won the 4th qtr and that won us the game.  Not gonna b**** about
Ricky it's a W.  We won ugly but nobody said we had to win pretty.  Pretty much see how Pelini wants to play it out .   Grind it out control the ball and with our D and special teams we have a good chance of being in the game at the end.  We usually don't close out the 4th qtr and we did this time.  Signature road win lets build off it and beat UNI next week.

First of all a wins a win no matter how ugly it is.  We all know that after the Tressel years. I will list my thoughts as a list so I don't forget after a night of letting the emotions cool.

1. Crowd.
Weather report strikes again.  But our area has no connection to the teams we play, other than Akron and Kent we have no natural rivals.  Youngstown has lost considerable population and what is left could careless about local college football.  Even if we win in this brand of football 10-15 thousand would be max.  Nobody cares what league we are in.  Cable tv also plays in.  But not much ESPN 3 might hurt a little too but not much. FCS football in Ohio is like shopping at Kmart or Sears. No reason to go or care.  Move up or change conferences.
There was hardly any students again and they do a giveaway every game for 2 $250 schollies per game.

2.  Monty

Still dont get him after what 8 yrs.  His offense genius is between the 20's. in the red zone he is clueless and indecisive.  (Example,  having to call timeout after time out because we don't know Which of the 3 plays to call
We need to speed up tempo instead we plod our way down the field st times and our team plays like that as well.  speed it up the kids will respond.  SD was doing that and was successful they didn't have the horses to sustain it.
Back to Monty. Wtf happens to him in the second half.  Year after year game after game we have the lead and he goes into a shell in the second half.  We had superior speed at the skills and we Never isolated or ran any screens to our speed guys and if we would have took more vertical shots with them playing so close in the box with their safety's Davis would have had 400 yds lke WV did.  Good coaches ADJUST and EXPLOINT and get the ball into the hands of your playmakers.  They few times that he usedWebb like that the lb had no chance to cover him.
No BIG BACK.  What happened to running Kuhn in short yardage.  I guess we lost that page of the playbook.  .  If I was Pelini I would fire Monty at the end of the season and get his guy.  Yea we got 450 on that D but if you did your homework even your grandma new they had a young undersized D with not much speed in the secondary.  Not impressed and time to move on.

Defense.

Pelini bro schemed was dead on.  Stop the QB and you stop the Coyotes.  They caught us at times withe hurry up and for the love of Pete if the corner is getting beat take the penalty instead of letting them get the score.  It's college football. It's 15 yds not 6pts. Teams are double and triple teaming Rivers which has opened up some big plays for Moss.  The D had a pick 6 so as a whole they did their job.

Special teams. Not much to say except Kennedy is automatic and gets great depth on his kickoffs.  Translates touchback or little yardage on returns.  We only punted once and it was a long touch back.  Vastly improved special teams.

Summary.  We did what we had to do.  I thought Davis did well.  Ruiz ran well and we need to ride him 20+ carries a game to take control of the running game to protect Ricky.  Spot Webb 15 -18 plays to isolate him due to down and distance.  We are still a bubble team here 7 wins is in realm. .  I really think we need to figure out what happens when this team runs into the locker room at half time.  We can't keep putting all the pressure on the D with what I see as weak adjustments poor use of personnel and play calling that makes u scratch your head.  I feel Monty!s job to keep or lose this year.  Fix your Red zone offense that would be a start.

Go YSU!

Good point Wick.  I am tired of it too.  But  the fans who spend their hard earned money want to be heard and we are being ignored. It is what is I guess.

I guess what bothers me is I guess fans in the stands don't matter. Are we getting more from the corporate side. We must or they wouldn't build loges.  I love my Penguins anybody that knows me I bleed the red and white. But I feel the fans, and even the players are getting screwed with having 2 BS games on the schedule. I have attended every playoff game and championship game I spend bot loads of $$$ alone to just attend and Penguin Club and other events for football.  If I am giving 2500 a yr to support athletics I want to feel we are scheduling the best competition and also create interest for the casual fan as well scheduling.  Basically what is happening we are being used on that second game to pay for the non revenue sports.  So 6 home games and no playoffs I am spending what $400 a game not counting tailgating stuff.  YSU is laughing all the way to the bank on that. 1 game with the Bobby Morris of the world is okay 2 it's fleecing your true fan.  So I guess my 2500 is chump change.    Being in FCS is a sham anyways.  You have some schools spending big bucks then you have the Butlers hardly spending anything the playoffs are even rigged.  When you host or bid on a game you have to give the NCAA 85% of the gate  I think of the gate so you lose money making the playoffs I think I have heard Strollo say it not a money maker at all.  I think Penguinpower is right we need to find a better fit.  CAA would be better for recruiting and traveling.

Far from a hater but a fan but a YSU season ticket holder and. Penguin Club member for 25 yrs that  have seen the program regress and lose its fan base.  We have not made the playoffs in 10 yrs and I want us and Rickey to do well but with all the near misses etc it's hard to believe.  I agree about the WR play it's been inconsistent.  Go YSU!

Being tough is all good but we and he need to be smart about how we use Ricky.  We all know he is tough.  I want a running QB that's a threat to run, not a threat to pass.  His body of work hasn't showed that's he's a complete QB.  If you would ask any league Defensive coach what 12's tendencies and strength is I am sure the response would be all the same.  Good athlete that can run, still needs work on his pass game .  He reminds me of Pryor to be honest.  Again he has improved and let's hope he continues to develop

All I learned from this game is if Ricky Davis is our best option at QB we are in trouble.  Hosick performance was mediocre and against that competition he should have destroyed it.  I don't want to hear that we weren't up for the game and it's the competition and we aren't showing anything.  The league already know what this sh**ty offense will do after what 8 yrs of Monty. Let's hope we win 7 games.  I am in the Penguin Club and spend good money and what I see is a program with no identity or direction and I think it's time to pull the plug on me giving so much.  Let me clarify about Davis.  We expose him to to many unnecessary hits and he doesnt protect himself as well and play smart.  I like him but just don't see him staying  healthy.  Makes me sad I love YSU but it's on fumes right now and if it's losing my interest why would the casual fan want to come see them play.  Well newsflash!  They aren't. Especially against that competition.

Well let's just hope the QB's keep improving.  I agree with you Penguin Nation for the most part. It's just hard to get an accurate assessment with how we schedule before league.

We gave up 600+ yards.  WV is good but they aren't the Buckeyes.  Do u think That that the Bison and even Northern Iowa would find that acceptable.
