« on: December 09, 2014, 10:10:54 AM »
INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State junior center Bobby Hain (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter) has been named the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Oakland freshman guard Nick Daniels (Westland, Mich./John Glenn) has been named the Freshman of the Week, for the week of Dec. 1-7.

Hain had two double-doubles last week as the Penguins won three games. He started the week with a career-high 24 points and a Horizon League-high 14 rebounds in YSU’s 89-81 win at Robert Morris. The junior was 10-of-13 from the field in the contest, while also connecting on all four of his free throw attempts as Youngstown State won at Robert Morris for the first time since 2001. On Friday night, Hain scored 16 points and tied for game-high honors with 12 rebounds as the Penguins won at South Dakota, 87-79. He closed the week with 15 points and five rebounds in YSU’s 70-45 win over Thiel.

For the week, Hain averaged 18.3 points per game, and 10.3 rebounds per game, while also accumulating five assists, two steals and three blocks in 88 minutes of action. He has four double-doubles on the year to tie for the top total in the conference and ranks second in the conference with an average of 7.7 rpg.

Youngstown State (7-4) has won six of its last seven contests and returns to action on Saturday when it plays at Texas A&M at 5 p.m.

Daniels earned Freshman of the Week honors for the first time this season. The redshirt guard had appeared in just two games and made just one field goal prior to this week before scoring 27 points in 48 minutes of action for the Golden Grizzlies. He made his first career start on Tuesday versus Rochester College and scored a season-best 17 points. He was 5-of-6 from the field versus Rochester, including 5-of-5 from three-point range. Daniels also had four rebounds, four assists and two steals in the game. On Saturday, he scored 10 points, connecting on 4-of-8 shots from the field (2-of-4 from three-point range) as the Golden Grizzlies prevailed over Morehead State, 70-68, in overtime.

Daniels shot 64.3 percent from the field (9-of-14) last week and made 77.8 percent of his three-pointers (7-of-9).

Oakland (5-4) is on a three-game winning streak and returns to action on Sunday night at #19/18 Michigan State at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
