2014 MVFC All-Conference
ysufan0505:
Andrew Williams is the best WR in the league. This is a joke.
IAA Fan:
Power, we had several losses under tressel that caused us to be down in the seeding. Additionally, we were an independent, which I feel should seldom have precedence over a conference-affiliated team.
-1990: we almost lost to DII BLoomsburg, but did have 3 MAC wins. We hosted UCF, but lost in Round-I.
-1991: We were lucky to make it to the play-off. That win against GA Southern was huge. Also it was a 12-game season, or we would not have made it. We hosted 2 games and traveled to Nevada ...the higher seed.
-1992: 6-2-1 against DI competition. Our reputation put us in.
-1993: we had 2 losses and no DII games. We were home team until the final.
-1994: 10-0-1 ...again home all the way until the final.
-1997: we had 8 DI wins, finished 3rd in the Gateway ...home first-round only.
-1999: We had 2 DII's and Cal-Poly (which was not officially DI as of yet) on our schedule. We traveled to Montana, but came home for the next-2 games.
-2000: We finished 3rd in the conference and were selected over UNI (which finished at #2 in the conference). Clearly our reputation got us in there.
-2001: We had to beat Marshall to get 7 DI wins. The selection committee all but told us that a win against Marshall (IA and ranked #21) would have put us in. Awesome game, but we lost. Our win against Elon did not help us, as they were new and still on probation.
-2005: You have a point there. We did have 7 DI wins, but finished tied for 3rd in the gateway ...loosing to #1 and #2. Could have gone either way.
-2006: We lost in a thriller to UNI, but won the GFC ...we were seeded. Remember how mad coach Mickey was from James Madison. Best post-season game ever (IMO).
So I think that coach H had 3 seasons were it was very questionable (as to whether or not YSU deserved a shot at the post-season) and never got the benefit of the doubt ...but Tressel got into the post-season twice with records just as questionable & we made the title game each of those times.

1997 was the first year in the conference. Previous playoff bids were based on being a worthy independent. My point is that joining this conference has not benefitted us with regard to playoff births. At the end of the day we need to win it to get in but every year we are on the edge the conference affiliation does nothing for us. I would argue that it hurts us because there is an obligation not to pick too many teams from one conference.
mvfc penguin:
I thought this was a thread about how players got snubbed from all-conference votes not about how we get snubbed from the playoffs.
ysufan0505: Andrew Williams is the second best receiver in the league (only behind Jake Wieneke of South Dakota State, who led the country in receiving.)
