I find it difficult to predict the number of stupid plays and based on the fact that we haven't been consistently getting better in this area.

If you would, please clarify where the blame lies for stupid mistakes.  This is for understanding your point and not argument.
My take: I think players and coaches have each had their moments.  What mistakes from a coaching aspect that grind me are poor clock management and the horrible problem of getting plays in on time.  Poor use of time outs (maybe more to it than apparent), the fake punt debacle and our conservative second half offense.  These are all correctable, but don't appear to be important to the coaching staff as they are a constant.
Some penalties such as off-sides and motion are mental errors on the players.  I am not sure penalties ever come at a good time, but YSU seems to major in the worst timing giving their opponents first downs when the defense had them stopped.   Personal fouls for fighting are just idiotic, me first penalties that I feel are many times egged on by an opposing coaching staff.  Officiating has been horrible, but it has been that way for years and you have to play to overcome that.  I watched the official think about tossing a flag when the WIU punter took a flop shortly after they were hit for running into Joey.

Blame lies on both sides.  You nailed my point.  For example running back before the punter kicks the ball giving up the fake.  Who coaches that strategy?   As a player that has been playing many years how could you not understand that fundamental thing.  Both sides create the exact problems you stated so well.

ScarletRook:
I heard this comment from a player after last the WIU game concerning the fake:
"we saw it coming, but we have to follow the coaching assignment"

I heard that type of comment before coming from defensive linemen.  So where is the breakdown in communication?  I fear if there was a play clock for the defense, we would capture the market in delay of game penalties.  Now, we just abuse our time-outs.

ysuguins4:
I believe the team bounces back and wins a close one 28 - 27.

Lets_Talk:
I know several people who post on this board seem to like the Massey Ratings. For what it is worth, Massey gives YSU a 45% chance of winning, and has a predicted score of SIU 27 - YSU 24

YSU is now 19th in Massey FCS ratings, while SIU is 8th
http://www.masseyratings.com/team.php?t=9217&s=262657

If using Sagarin ratings, SIU comes out a winner by about 2 points

#118 YSU - rating 59.22+ 3.29(home advantage) = 62.51
# 88 SIU rating 64.66

Seems to have the makings of another close game. The teams have one common opponent, WIU.... SIU beat WIU 34-17.... WIU beat YSU 30-24
