Kicker commits for 2015 season
« on: July 17, 2014, 11:34:59 AM »
IAA Fan, It might be time to add a 2015 football recruiting thread.

Anyway, for those of you who are out-of-town, Mooney kicker Zak Kennedy committed for 2015 when he was offered a scholarship after our kicking camp.  Good stats for a high school kid: 13 for 15 field goals.  Longest was 42 yards which was into a stiff wind at Fawcett stadium in November.   According to a Vindicator article, he will also start to punt this year for the first time.  I expect that he and McFadden will compete for both jobs in 2015.

Seems to have a strong leg. Nice early commit!

This signing may reflect that staff doesn't have much confidence in C. McFadden moving forward.

Vindicator reported today that we got a commitment from Jacob Zinni, a 6'3" - 294lb. lineman from West Branch.  Anybody know something about this kid?  He might be great, but Wolford wasted a scholarship on the last West Branch lineman, who promptly quit.  Also, I always worry about getting kids from weak leagues.  With no equivalent to AAU ball for high school football, it is impossible to tell if these kids who play against weak high school competition can step up to the college level.

Zinni is a 3 year starter and played left OT and a down DE. Not impressive at either position ( film on Hudl). Can't see him playing D which leaves O and he'll have to be moved inside ( C or G). Blocks high and got away with holding often. Another local kid they should have passed on.

Didn't look too impressive on film. Big kid, but hard to say because West Branch plays mediocre talent.
