Way to go Penguins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Penguin-Husky:
Congratulations.  Baseball is big in the Valley and this can only help for the future.  We see these kids a lot in the T-gate area during football season and they are a great group of kids.

Penquin68:
Really impressed with the tournament play.  The defense was outstanding for YSU; really impressed by Shane Willoughby at short and Phil Lapari at second.  Both made outstanding plays that were way beyond routine.  Only one error in the tournament by the left fielder.  Also the play in right field in the 8th in the last game was an aggressive play to win the tournament that just about backfired.  Looked like he was close to the catch.  Compare to the defensive play by the other teams and we really had an advantage.  Most of our scoring was aided by walks, hit batsmen, errors, and questionable plays.  Also the pitching during the season was really hurt by walks which were held to a minimum in the tournament except for the one bad inning against Milwaukee which was a typical occurrence during the season.  Also great to see Jeremy Quinlan do so well, being a local walk-on.  Lots of talent locally that maybe we can now attract from the "B" League.  Not sure if we pursued that local talent previously, but with the outstanding play of some of our local players, it can be helpful in the future.

Great Tournament play for sure.  The other teams did not hold up well at all under the pressure and in most of our wins than was a factor. YSU played like Champions in every sense of the word.  Congratulations to all the Players and Coaches for a job well done.

Pita:
Wonderful!  A long time we have waited.  Each of you who contributed....thank you!  Yet another victory for YSU!  Celebrate C'mon!!!!

This was a GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT. YSU entered the tournament 12-36 overall, including 4-24 away and 6-3 neutral site(combined 10-27). Went 6-17 in HL play, yet 4-0 in HL Tournament when a trip to NCAA Tournament was on the line. Some will say it was luck. I say BS to that. Especially given that YSU went 4-0 in the HL Tournament. And, YSU's longest winning streak in the regular season was 2 games. In the HL Tournament, they won 4 in a row. 2 of the wins were over the regular season champion(WSU), and a 3rd was against host team UWM.

To give some perspective, here in Vegas, the UNLV team was hyped as the best ever in school history. Coach talked about the team advancing to World Series in Omaha. UNLV won MWC regular season, and hosted the tournament by virtue of it being their year to host. UNLV won their first 3 games, then lost back-to-back to SDSU. And, on Saturday, SDSU had to win an elimination game just to be able to beat UNLV later that night.

YSU may well go into the tournament as the worst team record wise, but they will be in the tournament. And, they will have EARNED it with their performance on the field. I think the men's basketball team and the football team can learn alot from this years baseball team.
