Athletic Department Coverage
« on: April 12, 2014, 06:23:49 PM »
If any other sport at YSU other than Mens Golf played against or competed with the teams listed below we would see an article about the team being from the MAC, Big Ten or BCS conference.  If you take a closer look the mens team is in 4th place following 2 rounds.. The staff and AD are a joke along with the countless SIDs that dont cover their respective sports the way they should....

First of all, there is an article on the YSU Athletic web site about this tournament. It really does not do much good to have write-ups after 36 holes in a 54 hole tournament. And, if you notice, the YSU web site typically waits until the tournament is over to provide a recap and results. Having an artcile on the website after 36 holes would be akin to having an elaborate article 30 minutes into a basketball game, or about mid-way through the 3rd quarter of a football game.

Secondly, golf is not a sport that gets much media coverage, even at the top programs in the country. It sucks, but people who play golf in college know this is the case. Golf is just not a sport many people follow in college.  :(

Third, this tournament did not have any powerhouse programs. This is NOT to take anything away from YSU finishing 4th out of 14 schools. Just pointing out this was not as strong a field as you might think based solely on the names of the schools.

Again, placing 4th of 14 teams in this tournament was a fine accomplishment. And, I do agree the team did not get the attention it would have if in a more high profile sport. There have also been many times YSU placed near the bottom against the same quality of competition, so again the 4th place finish is a solid accomplishment. YSU was the 8th highest rated team in this tournament, and finished 4th. Only 2 teams in the tournament are in the top 125 in the country, Michigan(73rd) and Indiana(85th). There are 290 golf programs at the NCAA D1 level.
