The Youngstown State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is saddened by the passing of longtime equipment manager and Penguin enthusiast Carmine Cassese. Cassese, 57, died overnight after an ongoing battle with cancer.
"Carm" retired from Youngstown State in February 2012 after starting with the university in the early 1980s. In addition to being a treasured member of the YSU family, Cassese was well-known throughout the community as the owner of Cassese's MVR in the Smoky Hollow neighborhood just off campus.
Calling hours will be Monday at Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. in Boardman, from 1 to 7 p.m. The Mass will be on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave. in Youngstown.
