Drew Dosch Repeats as Academic All-America Selection
« on: June 01, 2013, 08:26:21 AM »
Youngstown State junior third baseman Drew Dosch has been voted to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Second Team for his combined efforts during the year on the field and in the classroom.

This is the second straight season that the Canal Winchester, Ohio, native has been voted to the second team. He is one of two Penguin student-athletes in school history to earn Academic All-America honors twice in a career, joining Aaron Merrill of the men's track and field program. Dosch also joins YSU women's basketball player Brandi Brown as Academic All-America selections in 2013.

Dosch was named First-Team All-Horizon League for the second straight season in 2013, leading the conference with a .434 on-base percentage and 36 walks. The junior also ranked in the top five in hits (68), batting average (.338), slugging percentage (.488), runs scored (40), doubles (15) and triples (3). He was twice named the Horizon League's batter of the week, and he was the conference scholar-athlete of the month in February.

He was named the top professional prospect in the Horizon League by Baseball America prior to the season, and he was selected as the conference preseason player of the year by multiple outlets.

Dosch is one of only two student-athletes playing at an Ohio school on the Academic All-America list, and he is the only Horizon League player.

In the classroom, Dosch holds a 3.96 grade-point average as an integrated social studies education major at Youngstown State.

The teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
