Former Youngstown State tight end Will Shaw has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, the organization announced on Monday.

Shaw, a second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference in 2012, had a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this month. The Eagles released former FCS running back Miguel Maysonet to make room for Shaw on their active 90-player roster.

In his first full season as a tight end in 2012, he caught 35 passes for 429 yards and five scores. In MVFC he had 26 catches for 317 yards and two touchdowns. Against the Pittsburgh Panthers in the season opener at Heinz Field, home of the Steelers, he caught three passes for 51 yards. Two of his receptions were for touchdowns against the Panthers.

Shaw, a junior college transfer from Mesa Community College, he joined the program as a safety. He played safety as a sophomore in 2010 before moving to linebacker in the spring of 2011. In the fall, he moved from linebacker to tight end and flourished in the position.

As a junior in 2011, he caught eight passes for 200 yards and had four touchdowns. Of his eight receptions that season, seven came in the final five games. He averaged an impressive 25 yards per grab.

The Baltimore, Md., native graduated from Highland High School.

He joins former Penguins Jamaine Cook (Cleveland Browns) and Lamar Mady (Oakland Raiders) to sign with an NFL team in recent weeks. Former defensive lineman Aronde Stanton has been picked up by the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
