The Youngstown State football team will make its second trip in school history to East Lansing, Mich., to take on the Michigan State Spartans on Sept. 14 this fall at Spartan Stadium.
The Penguins open with two home games before returning to Michigan State for the first time since 2011. YSU dropped a 28-13 decision to the Spartans in 2011 and trailed just 14-6 at halftime.
MSU is coming off a 7-6 campaign, which included wins over Boise State, Wisconsin and TCU. The Spartans came from behind to defeat the Horned Frogs 17-16 in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl to end the campiagn. Michigan State opens the year with three consecutive home games - Western Michigan, South Florida and YSU.
By playing a BCS school in 2013, the Guins will have played a BCS opponent every year since 2005. Last season the Penguins picked up their first victory ever over a BCS program defeating Pittsburgh 31-17 in the season opener at Heinz Field. YSU finished the 2012 campaign with a 7-4 mark, which included four-game and three-game winning streaks.
Season tickets for the 2013 campaign are on sale now. YSU will play seven home games this fall, including non-conference games against Dayton, Morehead State and Duquesne. The Penguins' conference home opponents are Illinois State, Western Illinois, South Dakota State and two-time defending FCS National Champion North Dakota State.
Ticket information and game time for the contest in East Lansing will be announced at a later date.
The Penguins begin Spring Football drills on Tuesday, March 19 with the Spring Game being scheduled for Friday, April 19.
