Plummer Signs National Letter-of-Intent for Basketball
« on: April 17, 2013, 04:38:59 PM »
Youngstown, Ohio -- Jalon (pronounced Jay-lun) Plummer, a 6-foot-4 guard from Belleville, Mich., has signed a National Letter-of-Intent during the late signing period to join the Youngstown State men's basketball program in 2013-14, Head Coach Jerry Slocum announced on Wednesday.

According to Slocum, Plummer is a versatile athlete who defends and shoots the ball well.

"We are excited to have Jalon as a part of our basketball family," Slocum said. "He is a multi-talented player who is a great defender and has a great ability to score the basketball. He comes from a great high school program and has known nothing but winning."

Plummer averaged 11 points and six rebounds last season for Romulus High School, which won Michigan's Class A state title with a 27-1 record. He was also named the Most Valuable Player of the ISP All-Star Game after scoring 29 points with 12 rebounds.

Plummer said his comfort level with both the coaches and the players was a major factor in his decision to join the Penguins.

"First of all, I felt signing with Youngstown State was a great fit for me," Plummer said. "It is not far from home so my family will get to see me play a lot. The coaches and players made me feel at home, and being able to play for coaches that can see an upside in me as a key factor."

Plummer turned in a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double and drained 5-of-7 from 3-point range in a win over Birmingham Detroit Country Day.

Plummer is one of four Division I recruits from his high school team, joining Wes Clark (Missouri), E.C. Matthews (Rhode Island) and Leo Edwards (Louisiana Tech).

Plummer joins Marcus Keene (San Antonio, Texas), a 5-9 point guard, in YSU's 2013-14 recruiting class.
