Dayton, Ohio -- The Youngstown State men's basketball team dropped a 72-45 decision to Wright State in the regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon at the Nutter Center.
The Penguins fall to 16-14 overall and 7-9 in the Horizon League while Wright State improves to 19-11 overall and 10-6 in the league.

With the loss, the Penguins secured the sixth seed in the 2013 Horizon League Tournament and will host seventh-seeded Loyola, Tuesday, March 5, at 7:05 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.

Senior Damian Eargle was the only player to reach double figures with 11 points as the Penguins were held to a season-low in scoring.

Junior Kamren Belin had eight points while sophomore DJ Cole and freshman Bobby Hain had seven points each.

The Penguins shot just 30 percent in the first half but also committed 14 first-half turnovers that led to 19 Wright State points.

The Raiders, who never trailed, jumped out to a 10-2 advantage within the games first four minutes.
Wright State built a 13-point lead, 19-6, at the 11:26 mark before the Penguins used an 8-2 run to get within seven, 21-14, with 8:17 to go. A layup and 3-pointer by Allen and three free throws by Shawn Amiker fueled the mini run.

The Raiders outscored the Penguins 18-5 over the next eight minutes to take a 39-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Penguins shot the ball better in the second half with 42.1 percent clip but the Raiders, who shot 61.5 percent in the first half, connected on 50 percent in the second half.

Wright State led by as many as 29 points, 67-39, with 3:20 left in the game.

Was at the game today.  This team is really, really bad.  I understand Perry is not playing, but, WOW they play with no emotion and as if they don't want to be there.  Eargle, from what I understand, is the #2 on this team.  He's skinny and couldn't hold on to the ball today......AT ALL!!!!  He played way slower than anyone else on the court.

The offense...well it's offensive.  I can't even tell what they were trying to run and neither did they.  They have no shooters and the Hain guy needs about 40lbs of muscle on his body.

This is the first time I've seen them play this year and I wonder how they've won 16 games.  As a basketball official, I've seen high school teams that would kill YSU.   Very embarassing.

Hahahahahhahaha.....I actually live down here now.  So I didn't have to make the trip.  Just thought I would see what they look like.  And man, I was not impressed at all.

I am not impressed either.  Best of luck in Dayton.  I gather with a name like SoupCity you may be a fellow Red Devil like I was.  Sorry you seen such a poorly coached team.

Disappointing, this team should have had five to six more wins and finished higher than sixth place in the league.  Look for an early exit in the tourney.

If you've seen high school teams that would beat YSU, your eyesight CERTAINLY qualifies you to be an official. Another in a long line of stupid things said on this board.

Soup city man, are you kidding me?   You are a high school official of some type?  You have no historical background on what was going on with YSU and what led up to this defeat.  I won't dignify your remarks by responding, you obviously do not know YSU basketball.  Please stay in Wright State.
