Ladies vs Loyola
« on: February 23, 2013, 12:41:46 PM »
We might be in trouble here today. We have lost the ball three time trying to pass it outside from under the basket. We are looking like the men, trying to shoot the three-pointers far too much.

We were ahead by a point or two at the last media timeout.  Then, Flagg and Brown fouled out and we finished the game with small guards trying to resist two post players.  It just doesn't work.  Schlegel was the second most important player on this team.  When she went down, the season went down with her.

yes, this loss will loom very large, as there is going to be a three-way tie for 2nd and we split with the other two. So the only hope for any post-season is winning the tourney. A regular-season UWGB will go somewhere. We do not have the depth to win 3-games in 5-days.

Would have been nice to win this game. Even with Heidi Schlegel, this would have been a tough game to win. Loyola is playing very good right now. Had won 5 of 6 coming in to this game, with only loss to GB. And, they have their top player back, Simone Law. She missed the game at YSU.

Winning the HL regular season and even HL Tournament was not realistic, no matter the outcome of this game. GB will win the regular season, then host and win the HL Tournament. What would be nice, and is still possible is to finish in 2nd place, and earn the HL bid to the WNIT. And, that is still possible, especially if Schlegel is able to return. Will be more difficult without Heidi, but still possible. Playing 3 games in 5 days will be a challenge, but all 3 are at home. And, players would much rather play games than practice.

No matter what happens the rest of the way, this has been a very, very good season. Already at 18 wins, 17 of which are against D1 schools. First winning season since 99-00. Only need 1 win in final 4 regular season games to have first winning record in HL. At worst, YSU will finish 8-8 in HL, meaning first ever season of .500 or better. And, even without Heidi, I believe YSU can win 1 or 2 more games in the regular season, and then at least 1 game in the HL Tournament. Which means a 20 win season is very likely. Doubt there is ANYONE who would have predicted 18-20+ wins and .500 or better in season #3 of Coach Boldon's tenure when he was hired. Heck, not sure many outside of the players and coaching staff would have predicted a .500 or better season back in September/October.

GO PENGUINS!!!!!!!

We just received a wonderful gift.  UIC beat Detroit.  We remain in second place alone by one game with four left.  Detroit still has Green Bay at home.
