Cleveland, Ohio -- Former Youngstown State football player Andrew Johnson received a scholarship from the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation at the 24th Annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet on May 8 at the LaCentre Banquet Facility in Westlake.

Johnson was one of eleven graduating seniors to be awarded the scholarship by the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Candidates were chosen from 11 Northeastern Ohio collegiate institutions, which covers 15 counties.

Johnson was a Second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection and a second-team Academic All-MVFC pick as a senior in 2011. The Detroit, Mich. native was YSU's Defensive MVP and Jermaine Hopkins Defensive Lineman of the Year last season at defensive tackle. He finished with 39 total tackles, including 6.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss.

Additionally, Johnson was among a group of 58 student-athletes selected to the 14th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team. A Sociology major, he will earn his degree this Saturday.

Former Ole Miss and New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning, father of Peyton and Eli, served as the event's keynote speaker. Manning is now in his fifth year as The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame chairman.
