Spring Camp Update
« on: April 03, 2012, 09:42:27 AM »

The Youngstown State football team passed the halfway point of spring drills on Monday with their eighth practice of the camp. YSU was crisp in an hour-and-45-minute workout held at Stambaugh Stadium.

It was the Penguins' first practice since Saturday's major scrimmage. Besides individual work, YSU spent time on punt coverages and 20 minutes on team drills.

During Monday's extended individual period, the team focused on some of the situations that arose during the scrimmage. Head Coach Eric Wolford said the Penguins will take what was taught at today's practice and have an extended team period on Wednesday.

YSU's practice was shorter than normal because the team watched video of the scrimmage beforehand. Practice started at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Wolford said he has been impressed with a variety of players so far this spring. He said on the offensive line, Andrew Sinko and Fred Herdman have played well stepping in for injured linemen Lamar Mady and Andrew Radakovich.

The Penguins return to practice on Wednesday. The workout is scheduled to begin a 4 p.m.

Season tickets for the 2012 season are on sale now. Fans can purchase tickets by calling (330) 941-1978.

Seems like today from the interviews the defense really stepped up and shut down the offense, for once lol. Good to see though. If were going anywhere this year, we need the defense to play with a high intensity all year long

Guys like Cook, Hess, Rich, Radoc....the older guys have earned the right.......to expect all these JUCO guys to show up this year.

JUCO guys often think they are "the sh**".....when they aren't !!! Get with the program. Earn your keep!!!

Interesting info from the post-camp yesterday:

-Radokovich is out for the spring.
-Demond Hymes has knee & ankle injuries ...entire spring
-Defensive line is improving.
-More talk about Torian Pace doing much better than expected.
-Coach is very happy with Zaborsky ...Main very happy Zaborsky as well. He was told to put on weight & is now 22lbs heavier & actually faster that he was. Very exciting to see that level of commitment.

that kids such an asshat. heard from one of former HS teammates last year that he showed up the first day of camp, acted like he was entitled and once called himself the greatest football player to ever step on the field at YSU one day when a player questioned his work ethic.

True or not about what you claim, what is the point in running down a player?
Maybe we, as fans, should learn what it means to be a team also
and support the Penguins.

Mentor Viking,

Stay in Mentor if you don't support the team.  You're posts are critical and ridiculous.

except for the fact i support the team, but i dont need to support the entitled assclowns like Zaborsky
i have EVERY legal right to be critical on a message board, thats the whole reason they were created, to talk, good or bad, about any topic. and its not ridiculous when its stating facts.

The kid has yet to play in a varsity game.

Judge him only when he does.....If he excels, credit him. If he is all "all show NO GO", it will be readily seen and quickly discovered.

D1 College football has a way of doing that.
