The "bigs" don't start paying attention until you cross over 7' these days. At that point you begin to train exclusively for the high jump. I think the NCAA record is 7' 9.75". Also, if he is starting for a great baseball program like Fitch ...then we may want to recruit him there as well.
How old is he lecture? I see the junior national champ won the event with a jump of 6-11.75 last season. Could be something there. It would be great to be able to snare a national champ for our men's program.
Actually your first sentence is not quite true. Jay had offers from Major schools, but as with almost ALL track programs in the country, no full rides.
He is getting a full ride at YSU. And not the livin' and eatin' at home with Mom and Dad. He competed in the New Balance Invitational in NYC last year and is competing in that meet again this weekend.
Other athletes locally I know will be there Fitch--Gabby Figueroa thrower, Boardman--Devin Campbell, Adu-Poku and Nathan Jones.
Jakovina and Figueroa are both ranked #1 in Ohio indoor for their events.
