Penguin Baseball
« on: March 01, 2012, 04:48:43 PM »
Needless to say, I am very dissappointed by our start to the 2012 season. We have yet to win a game.
In 7 games we have:
-stranded 61 batters on base. This is because only the top-3 in our batting line-up average over 300.
-In contrast, we have had many runs scored on us (80), and our opponents have left 81 on base.
-Harless seems to be doing very well out of the bullpen.
-We have also allowed 13 unearned runs. I will tell you why ...because there have been 49 stolen bases against us.

Interesting stat:
Of the 80 runs that teams have scored in the first seven games, 41 (51 percent) have scored after there were two outs. Long Island scored eight two-out runs in YSU's last game, and N.C. Stats had eight runs with two outs on Feb. 18.

We need to turn this season around

Each year I make the same post about not being worried that we lose to southern teams in February or March.  This year is different.  We are getting blasted by some northern teams that should not be any better prepared than we are.  Not good.  Perhaps the prognosticators were correct.  Perhaps recruiting will improve with the WATTS center.  It better.  This is unacceptable.

They are just aweful and who is too blame for that.  Strollo?  He hired the coach.   Just shut down baseball and give the moeny to basketball.

Pride,

A college umpire who knows our former coach told me that the main reason why Florak left was his frustration with the funding level.  Apparently the main qualification for our current coach is that he works cheap and does not complain.  Nothing will change for baseball or any other olympic sport until the money is transferred from administration into the coaching and recruiting budgets.

Nice, concentrate on football only, and forget the other sports seems to be the trend. Thanks Strollo!

I really thought we would beat Akron today in the battle of the win-less today ...they are a bad team. I guess we are worse.

We have virtually no pitching! The defense is also quite questionable. It looks like another downer year. Can we not compete in any sports except track and football! :'(

Let's look at our team sports, besides track and football.

Volleyball.  A disaster area that suffered from a string of poor coaches.  A new coach must now build from scratch.

Soccer.  This coach has actually improved this squad defensively to the point where we are in most games.  Need to recruit more firepower.  Probably trending up.

Men's basketball.  What you see is what you get from Slocum.  Some like him.  Some don't.  Take your pick.

Women's basketball.  Boldon has one exceptional but undersized big girl, two good freshmen, and little else besides a few three point shooting specialists.  Trending up despite the many losses this season.

Baseball.  On a course to actually make volleyball look good.

Softball.  If this third year coach can find two pitchers that can handle Horizon League batters, he might succeed.  If not, well... .

YSU was on BTN today. They still have it in the archives. Looked like an offensive juggernaut, but gave up a late lead, and fell in 10 against Iowa.
