Horizon League Tournament
« on: February 27, 2012, 06:20:11 AM »
Tournament begins Tuesday at on campus sites.

Here are Pomeroy's predictions:

YSU 70 Green Bay 66 - YSU 66% chance of winning

Detroit 70 Loyola 57 - Detroit 90% chance of winning

Milwaukee 71 UIC 57 - Milwaukee 91% chance of winning

Butler 60 Wright State 52 - Butler 82% chance of winning

As the tournament begins, it seems there is a better chance this year of one of the teams having to play 4 games to win the tournament actually doing it.  Lots of parity this year.

I surely hope we get greater response at Beeghly
than we have shown enthusiasm on this site in
regard to the tournament.

I can't believe.....no one seems to care.

I DO..........GO PENGUINS

this site gives YSU a 2.1% chance of winning the tournament.

given the tournament format, Valpo and CSU are the heavy favorites

Any word on ticket sales? I know Tuesday is a hard sell, but with this season's resume ...I think it will be a solid turn-out.

All home teams win

Detorit 80 Loyola 71

YSU 77 Green Bay 60

Milwaukee 68 UIC 55

Butler 70, WSU 52

Home teams are no 28-4 since the HL went to the current format.

Great game,  :) YSU plays well when running quickly before the opponent's defense sets up. We need to continue fast paced games.

Is the Detroit game at home?

No more games at home.  Quarterfinals (Friday) and semi-finals (Saturday) are at Valpo.

If YSU beats Detroit on Friday, they will play Cleveland State Saturday night at Valpo.

Valpo will play the Milwaukee - Butler winner.

The championship game is next Tuesday night (March 6) at the highest seed remaining.   Since YSU is the lowest remaining seed after last night, it is a road game if YSU gets there.

As a note, the number 1 and 2 seeds are 14-2 in the semi-finals since the Horizon League went to the current format.  The only non #1 or #2 seed to win the tournament in this format was #3 Cleveland State a few years ago.  Tall challenge for the Penguins, but the parity in the league this year gives me hope.  Win two neutral site games to get to the championship.
