Shawn Brooks scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half to lead the Penguins, who have lost three straight.

There is comment about the Akron game on the Toledo thread, but it makes more sense to transfer that here.  It was very significant that the Akron coach told the media what El Penguin noted in the Toledo thread: namely, we have no bench or depth whatsoever.  Slocum massively wasted scholarships on kids that might not play much on D2 teams.  We have only five players, and we are in serious trouble in two years when only Perry remains.

How important is basketball at YSU and in the community?  How about this.  The Vindicator did not send a sports writer to cover the game in Akron.  But that illustrious journal had a staff member at a high school girls basketball game.  That kind of says it all.

YsuPride:
Slocum said earlier this is the best recruiting class he has put together.  Really?  Another reason he should be canned.  The program will continue to be a joke until we clean house starting at the top and bring in people who can bulid an athletic dept.

southbeach:
Ysu has 4 legitimate d1 players on the team; perry, Allen, brooks, and eargle. The rest are d2 and d3 players at best. Akron had d1 players coming off the bench! Total mismatch. Eargle was our only presence in the paint with no help from the bench. We pretty much were limited to shooting 3 pointers all night! Pathetic!! And when
we had an opportunity to shoot foul shots which very limited because we don't challenge anyone to guard us we couldn't make them!! Absolutely pathetic!!! I will now attempt to put this game behind me!

IAA Fan:
I still like Slocum. I also think that we will be much more of a presence in the conference, as our style changed so dramatically. I do not think we need to start over. Then again I have not seen much of the bench to tell.
