How the D Stacks Up Statistically so Far

100% false

No it doesnt
a great offense in this day in age always beats great defenses, especially when the basic D packages have been around for decades apon decades apon decades, while the offense is always changing which is why teams score more and more points as time goes on

Great Offense=Championship
Great D=Championship Contender, but will get dominated vs a top notch Offense

You must be really young.

Here is the deal.  Go look up every team that has won a National Championship and find out how thier Defense compares to all other teams on a national stage for each year and you will see that defense wins championships.  IF you stop someone from scoring points, you will most likely win the game, you can still score on defense and special teams.   The offense cannot defendthe goal and cannot score without being on the field.  Every great offensive team can be beaten with a great defense.  The only thing the offense can do is allow the defense to rest, which is important, but the defense can become the offense when it scores.

nobody cares about the past, move on old timers

penguinpower:
I don't consider myself an old timer yet.  YSU fans are some of the most educated football people in the USA.  We want our young fans to represent the area well with good football knowlege.  If you made your statement to any coach in the NCAA he would tell you that you are a retard with your messed up concept that great offenses are the key.

Look what happened to #1 Ga Southern this last weekend.  They were #1 in offense and got beat by App State's dominating defense.

Wick250:
21,

You display the arrogance of youth, and that is fine.  Young people have demonstrated that characteristic for thousands of years.  But here is a history lesson, whether you want it or not.  The Double Wing, the Single Wing, the T formation, the Winged T, the Wishbone, the I formation, the Veer, and now the Spread.  Each time a new formation became popular, defenses struggled to contain it and pundits predicted that this new offensive scheme was unstoppable.  Guess what.  Over time, defenses made their adjustments and contained each and every offensive scheme.  And in time, defenses will contain the spread.  College football has now entered its fourteenth decade.  In all that time, the best teams have won with dominating defenses.  You might get an occasional 41-39 "Big Game," but at the end of the season champions play the best defense....always.

YSUGO:
Great post Wick...Tradition is very important to winning Football Programs..that is why we have 4 flags flying in the North Endzone.  Those flags were because of Penguin teams that were tough on Defense, good special team play, and we had a great power run game that set up the pass.
