« on: December 02, 2024, 10:43:58 AM »
First college basketball men's net rankings of the season are out.

Here's how the Horizon League stacks up:

85. PFW
110.    Wright St.
145.   Oakland
206.   Milwaukee
214.   Robert Morris
250.   Green Bay
254.   Detroit
286.   NKU
305. YSU
306. CSU
343. IUPUI

Has to be YSU's lowest ranking in 6 years or so.

Of note, Pitt is 5, Ohio State is 12 & Syracuse is 177.  Mercyhurst is 321 in their first season of D1.

Monmouth picked up their first win of the season on Saturday upsetting Seton Hall by 12.

305 is horrible.  If they can hit open shots like they did the other night then we might be ok. Big if so far.    Saw that Monmouth beat Seton Hall.  They played a tough schedule and the games down in Texas were by far the easiest on their schedule.

Yes agree.  And Monmouth's SOS is 82. Obviously the Bethany win doesn't mean anything in the NET rankings so YSU's only 2 wins were against teams that have combined 1 win.  Losing to Central Michigan at home hurt.

This season is going to come down to if YSU can shoot respectively and get tougher on the boards.  I think defensively, they are pretty good. If you exclude YSU giving up 31 points in 2OT game, they are only giving up 67.5 per game, which is good considering they've lost 5 of those 8 games.

This week's games will be a good indicator to where YSU is at. Robert Morris appears to be much improved and their games with YSU are always tough.  Oakland is obviously coming off a Cinderella season & they have the best coach in the league. Oakland is always tough to read early as they play such a tough non-conference schedule.  Their SOS is 83.  They are coming off a 33-point win on the road against Toledo for their only D1 win of the season.  They got upside by Eastern Michigan by 3 at home. They also lost to Boise State by 33, played competitive with Illinois losing by 12, and lost to #1 Kansas by 21.

Oakland always a tough out no matter how good or bad they are. RMU much improved over last year.  Win at their place would be huge. If we shoot it well from the 3 line we stand a chance to win on the road.  If we revert back to the lack of 3 point shooting may be a long night.
