http://necfrontrow.com/game/12732 Here's a link to the game for those who didn't watch yet. If you go to the 10:38 mark you will see Ty Harper's dunk that is one of those or should be a top 10 sports center moment.
A little personal recap.
The good: Nico Galette 20 points on 8 of 13 and 9 rebounds. Nico is a grown man on the court.
Gabe Dynes 11 points on 5 of 6 and 6 rebounds with 7 blocks. Sat a lot of minutes in the 2nd as YSU went small against the full court press. Only had one foul on him which I thought the CSU guy lowerd his shoulder and iniated the contact. Sick of heaing the hommer announcers saying you need to go right at the body of a shot blocker. CSU big guy had a few that he got over Gabe but had 2 smacked back on the same play.
Juwan Maxey who I had a chance to watch as a juco was better than I expected. 14 points and 3 of 8 from three. He also handled the ball well against the press.
Ty Harper might be the most athletic player YSU has had since Cohill. Not saying he's as good of a basketball player as Dwayne but he was quick and explosive . Got a stupid flagrant foul that I never really saw so He sat a lot of the first half but he still chipped in 12 points in 19 minutes.
Chris Carrol only had 5 points but he had 8 rebounds and gives us some muscle out there. Chris did a great job as an outlet coming to the ball against the press.
The bad: EJ Farmer just couldn't hit a shot going 1 of 12 but made 7-9 free throws. added 6 rebounds which was a plus. Don't want to throw EJ under the bus and I'm sure he'll have some good nights going forward.
Jason Nelson was 0 of 4 and had 6 turnovers. First time watching Jason and I'm sure based on his last two stops which where higher than the Horizon league he should have some good nights going forward.
Incomplete : Siem Uijtendaal had 4 points and only played 12 minutes. He was one of the top players at Canisuis last year and I read where he was one of the higher NIL commits so I expected a little more but it's a long season and I'm sure Siem will have some nights where he leads the team.
Christian Kirkland only played 5 minutes so really can't get too much of a read on what he brings. Disappointed since he's someone that has the size with Zorgval being out.
David Wilkerson only played 4 minutes which was surprising since I heard many times he was in the running to start last season. With Nelson,Maxey, and Wilkerson the point guard position is stacked with ball handlers.
Winning on the road by 20 is a great way to open the season and really happy for coach Faulkner. Playing Ohio State tomorrow is going to be difficult. Hopefully YSU competes and makes it interesting. Not expecting to win but I hope the Penguins are respectable. Need to hit their 3s which they were shaky against Chicago State.
