That type of coaching resume is exactly what you’ll get if you continue to pay the lowest salaries. Just economic facts.

Our last under paid coach went to greener pastures!!!!!!

If the administrations attitude is to hire 3rd rate coaches because of economics then they need to tell the fans.

Unless we get some mega donor that pumps millions into NIL we will remain where we are as a stepping stone. Last years exodus of the defense was the sign. It’s a shame what happened last year. Nobody is getting fired except anyone DP feels is not doing their job. What I would like to see is some player on the sidelines start ripping into these players. There is no life or passion out there. Unfortunately we will be 2-10 this year.

Where’s multi millionaire Bob Sebo’s contributions? He’s the one who pushed Tressel to hire Phillips

On another note, I’ve seen some say Phillips received an extension after last season, but I can’t find a release anywhere. Did he get one or not?

Went back and looked from 10/16/23 - 7/15/24 (latest available data) I see some football coaches got a salary adjustment but did not see Coach Phillips on the list.

Once you start to "peel the onion" things become a lot clearer.  He is OVER compensated for his credentials.
This is a JOKE.  All the while they protect his ineptness to lead this football program.  Will anyone in the media have the BALLS to ask him a tough question tomorrow?

Take away the top and bottom salaries and everyone else is in the same ballpark.

My question is how many assistant coaches each team has and how much is spent on them.

He has zero connections otherwise we'd already have better assistant coaches regardless of pay.  He is hiring 3rd stringers from UC and Iowa State as assistant coaches that he knew.  They flower up their resumes and the team gives up 400 yards of rushing in ONE GAME to SDSU.

HE IS NOT THE ANSWER.  STROLLO KNOWS IT TOO!

Nice info ucf, so we are "kinda" middle of the pack. Does not seem as if money is a real issue with OC and DC.

I agree with everything in the first post .  A lot of good points.   The only thing I would question is the need to change coaches for 2 reasons.
Our d needs to improve and it may by the end of the season.  If so then a young Coaching staff did the job.  If not I still question if a coaching staff change is a good answer.  Cleveland has tried this since 99 and it has lead to very poor results.  There is a good reason on successful programs fans do not make coaching decisions.  Panic changes do not help.  The only answer is to work through the challenges just as in life. Pittsburgh has had 2 head coaches since 92 and only 3 losing seasons. I hope strollo doesn't panic and works hard to improve the program.

I also congratulate UCF for his excellent and timely research. Let's stop using "lack of money" as an excuse for this abysmal performance. The data clearly indicates that even the Dakota monsters are not compensating their key coaches much more than we are.  Our issue is INCOMPETENCE. Incompetence in recruiting and replacing (transfer portal.) Incompetence in drawing up effective schemes. Incompetence in motivating young men to play hard in a game that they should love.

Bob Hanson on his opinion on current YSU football in today’s Tribune/Vindy.
His discussion points are very much the same as those discussed on this board.

Hanson did mention all the factors that this board has been saying.

1.10 players on defense transferred out.
2.Not getting the players in the transfer portal to replace the level of talent that left.
3.A new qb who is inexperience who is talented but hasn't shown the ability to stretch the field.

My question which we'll probably never know did Phillip's have no clue that guys were leaving ?
What steps are in place so that so called being blindsided doesn't repeat itself going forward ?
Can Phillip's go into the portal and get the talent to right the ship ?

This is the reality of NCAA sports at a school like YSU.  You still need to recruit hs talent and deviop them for long term but in short term you need the portal to win now.
YSU basketball lost 4 starters off their Horizon league title 2 years ago and Calhoun brought in guys like Ziggy and Burns and won 20 + games and were runners up in the leauge.  This year coach Fauikner lost all 5 starters and hit the portal to hopefully get the guys that can make them a title contender.

It's about the Jimmys and Joes.  That's the recipe.  No difference between football and basketball.  The question is do we have the guy that can make it happen ?

I'm giving Coach Phillips a pass with the view he was blindsided and  the fact he had the program going the right direction with 2 winning season and a playoff apperance but if he comes back with a 3 win season next year then changes will need to be made.

Calhoun is a proven Coach with success.  I cant say the same about Phillips.  Just because the portal  worked for Calhoun doesnt mean it will work for Phillips..  For instance, Howard who now is the leading tackler at Duke has a head coach who is an elite defensive mind.   Some coaches can get untapped results out of a player.  I think it's pretty obvious YSU has a coaching issue.   We are staring 2-4 wins in the face this year and likely next year.  Sorry, people don't like the truth or don't want to accept whats right in front of their face.
