Ex penguins who transferred. How they fared.
« on: August 30, 2024, 04:37:49 PM »
Part of me doesn't blame them, while another part has contempt for them leaving.

Dylan wudke Kansas had no stats the first game.   From YSU starter to bench warmer.
https://kuathletics.com/sports/football/roster/dylan-wudke/1558

Anthony Jonson = quitter   https://247sports.com/college/illinois/article/fighting-illini-football-defensive-lineman-anthony-johnson-no-longer-with-team-illinois-head-coach-bret-bielema-230385515/

Tyjon Jones UAB.  Former YSU starter had two assisted tackles against Alcorn.
I think he's listed as a backup on the depth chart.      https://uabsports.com/sports/football/roster/tyjon-jones/10746

Troy Jakubec UAB former YSU starter had 0 stats.  Not sure if he's a deep backup, injured,or no longer with the team.  Only speculating.   https://uabsports.com/sports/football/roster/troy-jakubec/10745

Not sure if I'm missing anyone from the 1st couple days of the season and not 100% sure where all went but will try to update.     I'm wondering if a few extra nil bucks is worth being insignificant. ;D

Let me add Deamontae Diggs who was a back up dl last season.  He had one assisted tackle for Coastal Carolina.  Thinking he's a backup and I'm more interested in the former starters.https://goccusports.com/sports/football/roster/deamontae-diggs/19349

I believe Alex Howard was the only transfer that had used up the eligibility at YSU and thus transferring as the graduate transfer.
All others probably believed that they are ready to play at the t higher level with probably higher nil $$. Unless they are picked up by other team with nil $$, it was probably not a good move to try to get nil $$ if you can’t make the team.

I was thinking the same about Alex but he was listed as a junior on last seasons roster.

They wanted to leave have a nice day. I am more upset with how college sports is being ruined by money.

CJ Charleston no stats in um win over Fresno.   Nothing like being a starter to insignificant on a program that will be on probation later this season.

https://jmusports.com/sports/football/roster/chris-fitzgerald/22262

Chris had one pass deflection in James Madison 30-7 win over Charlotte.   He's actually listed as a starter so playing D1 might be a good move for him.

Update on Anthony Johnson who left Illinois and now is a backup at Pitt.  Had an assisted tackle in their win vs Kent State.  I saw on line in the past where he had some unflattering remarks about this years YSU team.

It got ruined by money a long, long time ago. This was a band aid that seems to have even made things worse.

It was gross how much money was flowing through the Power 5 conferences and the players weren't seeing any of it. I mean, this was essentially a free minor league system for the NFL with coaches making millions, etc. So, I appreciated the athletes getting some leverage in the deal.

But----the depth of the transfer portal is kind of silly. I have some thoughts on radically changing college sports, but this probably isn't the thread. I just feel like the semi-pro version of college football needs to stand apart from everything else.

Alex Howard had a monster game vs Northwestern with 14 tackles.

Dylan Wudke had 3 tackles vs Illinois.

Tyjon Jones 6 tackles vs ULM.

Chris Fitzgerald 5 tackles and a sack vs Gardner webb.

I might put a bullet in this thread since a few posters seem to indicate that good riddance and let's move on.  Not sure that we have adequately replaced these guys but don't want to beat a dead horse and hopefully the YSU defense emerges.
