YSU Beeghly facilities upgrade

I agree.  Behind as usual.  Where is the sense of urgency with this athletic department?   Volleyball season is just weeks away.

They had workers in there removing seats and starting all the other work immediately after Spring Commencement. It is evident there were delays on the vendor side that would have delayed the installation. It appears things are on track to begin installing so it will be exciting to watch the progress in the coming weeks.

AD was on tv this am talking about the upgrades. just got a lot of the seating a couple of weeks ago. Should have enough seating done in a couple of weeks for the VB season. Rest should be done in a month.

YSU AD Ron Strollo spoke at the Curbstone Coaches Luncheon today. He said the new seats are in place inside Beeghly Center. The seating capacity will be reduced from 6300 to about 5000.

I hate to see the seating capacity decreased but they always had one of the upper level bleachers pushed almost every game so it's probably not a problem.

Can't wait to see the finished product!  I figured we would go from 6,300 to perhaps 5,500 but to lose 1,500 seats (to approx. 4,800) is quite a lose of butts in the seats.  But it's going to look so much nicer.

The loss of seats does not bother me too much, very rare that we would sell out anyway. If the seats are larger and more comfortable it would be a nice tradeoff.

Thats awesome. So nice not seeing this hideous wooden bleachers anymore.

It would be nice to see the stand-alone baskets and backboards, suspended from the ceiling on long arms at 45 degree and 60 degree angles, disappear.  They had a purpose 40 years ago when athletic facilities at YSU were in short supply.  However, they have no utility today.  They are eyesores, high schoolish, and detract from the ambiance the university is seeking to create.
