Just guessing here. I read somewhere that NIL $ for MBB was about 3 times higher than the football team. This might be the reason why we have 9 transfers from the portal for MBB and not as much for our football team. This has become the new normal for the NCAA basketball programs. The winning program (especially the mid majors) will be determined by the number of the players transferred in via the transfer portal and the ability of the coaching staff to integrate them into a coherent unit.
It is also possible that DP wants to develop homegrown talents for his program.

After the success of our MBB last year based of the portal transfers, I would be surprised that our MBB would not continue this winning strategy.
