Transfer Portal- Basketball

<< < (4/4)

Greyson Kelley is a curious choice.  There are hundreds of Division I players remaining in the transfer portal and Calhoun selected a 6'1" guard from a 5-23 Division II team.  Kelley does not have a demonstrated history of sustained success.  He averaged 2.3 points per game in 2018 - 2019.

Kelley can shoot.  He was a 91% free throw shooter over a large sample size in 2019 - 2020.  On the other hand, his assist to turnover ratio was poor, which suggests he is not much of a ball handler.

Coach must know something not apparent from the record.  He may feel a pure shooter is necessary to balance a team of slashers and grinders.  Calhoun recruited Kendall Hampton a couple of years ago for the same role.

The made FT's would be nice. How many losses could have been reversed by making more FT's?

Great comparison.   Hampton too wasn't a ball handler and got his from their weave offense.   Look for Kelly in that role.   It's not great that he played on a 5 win D2 team but his shooting percentages are impressive.  Last year coach had a commit from a guy who was graduate transfer from a lower division school and it's still a mystery to me of what happen to him.

I thought Foster had some potential in non-conference games, but really wasn't used during Horizon League.  Played a total of 20 minutes in league games with 12 of those coming in the blowout loss to NKU.  Didn't even play in the last 12 games.

Mud,what's your opinion of Kelly ?
